The Chinese New Year began officially on Thursday, the second new moon after the winter solstice. The spring festival is celebrated with parades in cities throughout America with large Chinese populations. Traditional dragon and lion dances, familiar sights to many Americans, are to ward off evil spirits. If Chinese astrology amounts to anything it could be a very bad year for Republicans and a good one for weasely, conniving little liberals, as 2008 marks the beginning of the year of the rat.
Fortunately, I don’t believe in Chinese astrology.
Nevertheless, I wish you, “Kung Hei Fat Choi!” which means not, “Happy New Year,” but roughly translates as, “Congratulations, and be prosperous!”

Nothing better to put a passing political hullabaloo back in proper perspective than contemplating the vastness of the Universe. So much we don’t know, even right in our own backyard:
PARIS (AFP) – Astrophysicists in Germany say they can add evidence to bolster theories that water, one of the precious ingredients for life, exists on the Saturnian moon Enceladus.
A tiny satellite measuring just 504 kilometres (315 miles) across, Enceladus has become one of the most fiercely debated objects in the Solar System, thanks to close-up pictures taken by the US probe Cassini.
Enceladus has a brilliant white shell of ice that is untouched except for some strange-looking grooves and impacts from space rocks.
Cassini revealed plumes of water vapour that gush from surface stripes near its south pole, shooting crystal jets upwards for hundreds of kilometres (miles) into space. [read more]

Two Maryland Democrats, Barbara Frush and Virginia Clagett, have introduced a bill in that state’s legislature to ban the government from granting hunting licenses to anyone under the age of 13.
Right now, the State of Maryland issues “junior licenses” to children under 16 who pass a firearms and hunter safety course.
“The bill is a deliberate attempt to sabotage the future of hunting,” said Rob Sexton of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, a group that protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers. “If passed, this bill will have a devastating effect on recruiting young hunters and the future of wildlife conservation in Maryland.” Hunting license fees go toward conservation programs.
According to the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, research shows that people are far less likely to take up hunting after age twelve. “Parents, not the government, are far more equipped to know when their sons and daughters are ready to hunt,” said Sexton. [read more]
No need was cited for this law. No pressing issue. They just want to get rid of guns. If there is anything liberals know, its that if they can’t get what they want now, all they have to do is use the power of governement to force their values on your kids, and they will get what they want in a generation.
Look for similar bills to be coming soon to a liberal legislature near you.
