Only Because Obama Hasn’t TALKED to Them Yet!

Obama's Childish Foreign Policy

From the Washington Post:

THREADED through the reports of progress in Iraq by Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker last week was the story of a larger failure: the inability of the United States and its allies to contain the growing aggressiveness of Iran. Since Gen. Petraeus and Mr. Crocker last reported to Congress seven months ago, Iranian-backed militias and “special groups” in Iraq have evolved from a shadow force into the largest remaining threat to U.S. forces and the Iraqi government. It was Iranian-supplied rockets that slammed into the Green Zone in recent days and Iranian-trained militants who stiffened the resistance to Iraqi government forces trying to gain control over the southern city of Basra. Never fear! HOPE is here! If only Obama would TALK to them!

Good thing al Qaeda isn’t in Iraq!

  1. Actually Al Qaeda really has a relatively minor presence in Iraq, the U.S. is mainly fighting sectarian violence and especially the Iranian backed forces are Shiite, remember that Al-Qaeda is a Sunni terrorist organization. But don’t worry you are in good company, McCain never properly learned to distinguish Sunni and Shia either, not that it would be important in any way for U.S. policy. Fuck nuance, right??!

  2. Actually, Sander, like the quotation that accounts for 90% of this post says, Iranian backed militias and “special groups” in Iraq are the largest remaining threat to peace, not sectarian violence which has declined enormously. And yes, thanks to our military and policy supported by both President Bush and John McCain, and strenuously opposed by Barack “the surge wont work” Obama, al Qaeda has been utterly defeated in Iraq, which al Qaeda leaders themselves admitted — unlike Barack “AL QAEDA IS NOT IN …er, the, er, um, I mean, KEY um, al Qaeda um leadership is, er, not in Iraq” Obama(Yeah! theres some high quality liberal nuance for you! lol.) — was the central front in the war on terror. A front that, with absolutely no help from Obama, and indeed, over his opposition and declarations that it would never work, we are winning or have won.

And no, like most Americans, I am certain that John McCain has a far better understanding of the differences between Sunni and Shia than ignorant Obama or his ignorant supporters. And unlike ignorant Obama’s ignorant supporters who, in their ignorance, think they caught McCain in some gaffe, it is actually McCain who has the “nuanced” understanding and liberals, as usual, who are, again, ignorant.

    Please educate yourself.

Liberals really need to stop pretending like they have any clue about national security or foreign relations. Just as the surge is once again proving, you are always wrong about literally everything, you are nothing but pacifists and appeasers and no one but you actually buys your “nuance” bullshit anymore.

  3. I am sorry but I am neither a pacifist nor an appeaser, but of course arguing for you is much easier if you can simply put me into such categories. I supported the war in Iraq at the beginning even though I came to realize that it was foolhearted, still trying to figure out whether the entire enterprise was simply a mistake or whether it was mainly the clumsy execution. And in addition to that Obama got it right, there is no Al Qaeda leadership in Iraq, I hope you dont accuse him of stuttering, after all the current U.S. president is not a great orator. And yes John McCain was right on the surge and Obama was wrong. Obama was right that this war would not reshape the Arab world to the U.S. advantage, while McCain in the beginning repeatedly claimed the U.S. would be greeted as liberators. Obama called for a timetable withdrawal, while McCain refused it and now slowly comes to support as well after the Bush administration started shifting more in that direction and after security has so significantly increased in Iraq. I mean this is a very complex war and I have found myself predicting developments incorrectly quite often, but given the big picture I think Obama has a slightly better betting average than McCain and will have a bigger capital of goodwill to politically use among many key allies. One last remark, please discuss the facts with me, do not throw in ideological terms like liberal, pacifist and appeaser, this is part of a culture of drawing carricatures of ones opponents that seriously handicaps progress in American politics.
