“Environmentalists” hate cars. They hate energy. They don’t want the price of gas to come down — they want it to go up! If it isn’t clear to you already, they want to force you out of your car.
In their latest bid to do just that, liberals in California have passed a law requiring all cars for sale to display a “Global Warming Score” much like a pack of cigarettes carries the Surgeon General’s warning:
The labeling law forces cars for sale to display a global warming score, on a scale of one to 10, which is based on how vehicles in the same model year compare to one another. The higher the score, the cleaner a car is. The score takes into account emissions related to production of fuel for each vehicle as well as the direct emissions from vehicles.
The score will be displayed next to the already-required smog score, which also rates cars one to 10 for how many smog-forming emissions they emit. For both scores, an average vehicle will have a score of five. [read more]
Innocuous sounding enough, aside from the extra regulation, enforcement and costs of compliance in an already over-regulated industry — until you consider that, “a proposed law in the European Union would require E.U. public sector bodies put a price on emissions,” and that liberal legislatures around the country have already floated similar trial balloons here, seeking to tax your car’s “carbon footprint.” Then it becomes clear this is just preparation for precisely such a tax.
Once they know your car’s “Global Warming Score”, they can slap a tax on any score they deem unacceptable. So their aim is actually two-fold. Not only do they seek to force you out of your cars by making it increasingly expensive, for those who insist on driving, they are going to choose what you can and cannot drive by making cars they don’t approve of prohibitively expensive.
Like all liberal policies, this will be hardest on the poor. Already punished with high gas prices that are the natural result of Democrat obstruction of efforts to increase domestic energy supply for three decades, the poor are also the least able to go out and buy more fuel efficient cars. How much harder will it be for people to get ahead when they have to depend on the government to move them around?
I will keep saying it, and showing it, until I am blue in the face; “environmentalism” is the new totalitarianism. Václav Klaus, the president of the Czech Republic, all too familiar with totalitarianism, agrees. He was spot on when he said recently that there is no aspect of your life that government cannot control when “saving the Earth” is the goal.
And that is precisely what the left intends to do.

I’m a car lover I love them all and I’m tormented every day by the liberal Environmentalists, the news the radio the tv there all out to get me and my cars, it seams like everyone is brain dead, thanks to this site and the net theres hope just when I thought I was Alone thank you! We need to start a car party lately all the party’s even Republicans are spine less to stop them, I to am poor and these prices are killing me but I will drive my 1997 Cadillac De ville Concours, they’ll have to kill me to stop me from driving a real American V8 210″ long car and my classic Trans Am GTA we must drill here now!!! The Environmentalist are ruining our economy with something they can’t prove and the liberal media lies and says its Bush. I live in Chicago we didn’t have warm weather until June this year it’ll probably be in the 40’s by September and thats global warming! And Gore he’s a Commie, he’s a modern day Hitler leading the car holocaust while he lines his pockets, I could go on forever and beleive it or not I’m only 25 my dad didn’t let them brain wash me, Thank you for this blog Thank you
Comment by Carlo August 1, 2008 @ 1:15 amYou are welcome Carlo, and while I agree many on the left, including Al Gore share the dictatorial tendancies that define all the gradations of leftism, from socialism to fascism to communism, and while its tempting given how often the left ignorantly compares the right to nazis, fascists and Hitler, I think it lessens the horrors of what Hitler actually did to compare him to people who, no matter how wrong-headed, are not murderous like him. So I try to stick to pointing out the similarities between the ideologies of liberalism and socialism, etc. instead.
But you are absolutely right to want to drive your car. The more Americans cut back on travel of all kinds, be it air travel across country, or a car ride to the local mall, the more the economy will suffer. And the more the American economy suffers, the more people all around the world suffer — not to mention our freedom.
Pay attention to politics, local and national, and tell your representatives to oppose all the ways in which Democrats are trying to force us out of our cars.

These policies that you mention, I’m sure, aren’t just “liberal” policies. Whatever that is. Liberal this Liberal that.
While you’re complaining these rich “conservative republicans” are keeping the technology that would move us in the direction of recovering from our “addiction to oil”, Bush quote. If we were to move in that direction then this global warming score wouldn’t be necessary. common sense.
Ya’ll people aren’t gonna learn fast enough. what’s gonna happen when oil runs out. Cuz, just in case you don’t know it’s a finite resource. Meaning there is a limit on how much the earth posses. given, it may be a long time away but when are we gonna take the initiative to progress, or is progress a bad word for you?
“The democrats are trying to force us out our cars” How ridiculous is that?
The republicans are currently bankrupting our country. How about that one?

Comment by Damien August 1, 2008 @ 5:48 amWell, in all honesty, Damien, it’s ignorant. The economy was booming under Republicans, but Democrats control congress now, which means Democrats write the budgets, and Democrats write policy.
And yes, they are ONLY liberal policies. Republicans aren’t supporting “global warming scores” on cars. Republicans don’t support “carbon taxes.” Republicans don’t oppose fixing congestion by building new roads, Republicans dont support laws restricting the amount of parking available, and Republicans dont support spending more money on transit than on roads, just to name a few.
It is EXCLUSIVELY liberals who support these and all the other policies designed to force people out of their cars.

I hate how all the liberal car rags act like it’s GM’s fault their sales are down, “GM did nothing wrong” They build the best SUV’s and while I prefer car’s and DOHC engines, they built the products people wanted here in the USA with American workers. The main thing hurting US automakers is CAFE. Take a company that builds one type of product, then order them to build something the other way, of course there loosing money. While they should be worried about next years models they have to worry about 35 mpg Corvette’s (who wants a slow 35mpg Vett anyway) They shelved Cadillac’s new full size sedan and DOHC V8 just when their resale value and luxury market share was improving. remember the 80’s and a little car called Cimarron. The only reason it looked so much like a Chevy is CAFE the mandate forced Cadillac to release the car 4 years early only 6 months into it’s
development! Because of CAFE’s MPG goals! If left alone (no CAFE) Cadillac would have completed the car, with it’s own V6 and styling it would have looked nothing like a Chevy. The car would have set off Cadillac in Europe leading to new sales and a world image. As a result of that CAFE fiasco no mater what they do they can’t get people to accept a small Caddy. This is an example of how Liberals don’t care for this country and continue to hold us back world wide. Manufacturing is what leads to a strong economy. Liberals don’t want us to build anything. One last thing the temperatures did exactly what I said they would this winter Dec and Jan felt like Siberia in Chicago (that’s Global Warming) There hurting our economy over something they can’t prove.
