Not tens, not hundreds, but thousands! And when these are discovered and discarded, how many that are not so obvious get through. Senator ACORN is determined to win the election one way or another.

Here we are only three weeks from the 2008 Presidential Election, and one of the candidates remains a mystery. Obama, of course,denies this. He says that he has been in the public eye and making speeches for nearly two years, and of course people know him. Uh huh.
We have been presented with a charming package; a stylish, good-looking man with a resonant baritone voice who gives powerful speeches when he has a teleprompter. When he is without the teleprompter, not so much. There has been cult-like adoration of the candidate, songs to dear leader, pictures with a halo, adoration as “the messiah”, a “presidential world tour” long before an election, a presidential seal, an airplane outfitted with an Obama logo on the tail and a seat especially labeled “the President”. He has demanded audiences with officials of our country and others. Is it presumption or just megalomania? But he has not told us who he is and what he believes in. So we have to hunt for clues.
One of Obama’s fellow organizers, Mike Kruglic, hailed Obama for his persuasive powers:
He was a natural, the undisputed master of agitation, who could engage a room full of recruiting targets in a rapid-fire Socratic dialogue, nudging them to admit that they were not living up to their own standards…With probing, sometimes personal questions, he would pinpoint the source of pain in their lives, tearing down their egos just enough before dangling a carrot of hope that they could make things better.” (New Republic, March 19, 2007)
Obama was a student of Saul Alinsky, the father of community organizing. Alinsky called agitation “rubbing raw the sores of discontent”. Obama, early on, wondered if he could apply Alinsky’s rules of “community organizing” to politics. Which he apparently has.
Since his campaign for the Democratic nomination began, Obama has consistently “rubbed raw the sores of discontent” wherever he went. He has told his audiences that unemployment was widespread and they were next; that people all over the country were going bankrupt because of high medical bills; that the Bush economy was terrible; that we were spending too much on the war in Iraq and had to bring that money home to save the economy; and so on and so on. But until the implosion of the sub-prime mortgage market, the Bush economy was far better than that of the Clinton years, and people were in fact doing very well. Agitation. Make people feel that their lives are full of pain and that “hope” and “change” were on offer from — himself.
The trouble is he didn’t offer any evidence that he could deliver change or unity or anything to hope for. His record, his resume, had some fancy titles in it: Senator, Illinois State Senator, Chairman of the Board, but when looked at closely, the titles were empty — there were no accomplishments there. He sponsored some bills that passed in Illinois, but they were bills that had been pending for some time and were handed to him by the Democrat leader who said: “I’m gonna make me a senator”. In the U.S. Senate, he has been adept at claiming credit for bills on which he did no work.
So, if there is no evidence in his legislative record, what about his associates and allies?
There is first and foremost ACORN (the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now). Obama trained ACORN staffers, funneled funds to them from the Illinois senate, represented them in court, funneled funds to them from the Woods Fund and the Annenberg Challenge. They helped him to get elected to the Illinois legislature, in a non-partisan way of course, and turned out to support his U.S. Senate bid and endorsed his presidential campaign. Obama retaliated by supporting ACORN’s efforts to increase sub-prime loans to poorly qualified customers, and sending the organization $800,000, which he tried to hide, for it’s get out the vote efforts. ACORN was active in forcing banks to make such loans, and in lobbying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and lobbying Congress to further expand borrowing. This was one of Obama’s most successful accomplishments. But it didn’t turn out too well — at least for the rest of us.
And yet, on December 1, 2007, Obama promised to implement ACORN’s agenda as president. He said he would sit down with them during his first 100 days, and Obama said “Yes, but let me even say before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we’ll be calling all of you (community organizers) in to help us shape the agenda.” That’s really encouraging.
Let us turn to the associates and allies. There is the Reverend “God Damn America” Wright, but Obama has disassociated himself from the Black Power and Black Theology of Rev. Wright. And there is real estate developer Tony Rezco, but Obama has disassociated himself from Tony Rezco, and besides Rezco is in prison now. There is the Chicago machine run by Mayor Richard M. Daley, but Obama has nothing to do with the Chicago machine.
There are former Weathermen Bill Ayres and his wife Bernadine Dohrn, but Ayres was just a guy in the neighborhood. As far as the Ayres’ career as terrorists who bombed the Pentagon and the Capitol building and tried to kill a large group of soldiers and their dates at Fort Dix, well, that all happened when Obama was only 7 years old, and Obama never knew, or he knew but he thought Ayres had been rehabilitated, and he was just a guy in the neighborhood. Except that he served with Obama on the board of the Woods fund for several years, and was selected by Ayres to be co-chairman of the Annenberg Challenge with Ayres where they spent 5 years, attempting to reform schools by steering parents and children into radical activism. They spent $100 million, and according to authorities accomplished nothing whatsoever to improve Chicago schools. Which was a downer for the kids.
Then there is “Camp Obama” which offers activism training for campaign volunteers, teaching them organizing methods, And a second program, the Obama Organizing Fellows, will train participants in “field organizing, messaging and other activities”, both a practical and aggressive Alinsky method and a visionary “movement” style. Which makes Obama’s demand that we all will all be “required” to volunteer for one of his corps — the Peace Corps, or the High School Corps or the College Corps, or the Teaching Corps, or the Green Corps or the Corps Corps — more than a little scary.
Did I mention the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) which claims Obama as a member? Here is their agenda:
1. Restoring progressive taxation to the levels before the Reagan administration and enacting massive cuts in wasteful defense spending;
2. Enacting single-payer universal health insurance and expanding public initiatives in child care, elder care and pension security;
3. Passing the Employee Free Choice Act as part of a broader effort to rebuild a powerful labor movement capable of achieving equity in the labor market; and
Implementing a U.S. foreign policy that promotes global institutions that advance labor, environmental, and human rights and regulate transnational corporations.
Isn’t that exactly Obama’s program? So you see, we have a man of many accomplishments with many proud associations and associates. So why am I so worried?
