Phew, talk about misleading use of language and inappropriate polemic. An “act of war”, by definition of the term, is hostile action that is carried out BY A NATION against another nation. Something done by a private group of people does not meet that definition, unless they acted on government orders. The high number of casualites does not make a terrorist act an “act of war”. Just sayin’.

Of course it’s Newspeak. That’s why they don’t call themselves “liberals” any more, but “Progressives.” The word liberal had acquired a negative connotation.

Alternate procedures is very suitably wimpy. I’m not sure if ‘enemy’ combatants is soft enough–the ‘enemy’ designation still contains an unfriendly tone, and ‘combatant’ implies combat. How about ‘altercation detainees’ or ‘contentiousness detainees’?

How about “alternate procedures” as a euphemism for torture, and “enemy combatants” for “prisoners of war”?
