Thank you. I'm not sure the people have changed, but the media and -- officialdom? -- have. States copy other states. Everybody seems to jump on the same bandwagon. I suppose if you can say that Kansas and Nebraska and Minnesota are all doing it , whatever it is, then you have cover if it turns out to be stupid. But we have ordinary people making fun of bureaucrats, sneering at political correctness and multiculturalism, but it is the bureaucratic class that spouts all the nonsense. We have a playground in one of the parks in my neighborhood where everything that might move more than a couple of inches has been removed. It's a passable park for 2 and 3 year olds, and useless for anyone older. Can't run any risks. Boise has natural hot water. They used to have two beautiful near Olympic size pools right together, but when liability insurance reared its ugly head, they filled them in or otherwise destroyed them. It's everywhere, and it makes you crazy!

Great article. I think you can take it one step further. We've become a nation of wimps, and any form of manly or competitive behavior is seen as taboo. "Eating meat contributes to global warming!" My favorite is all the outrage about some high school girl's varsity basketball team beating the living crap out of their opposition 103-6 or something like that. The coach of the winning team said it perfectly though: (paraphrasing) "Look, I don't have enough people on the bench to take out all my starters, and I'm not going to tell my girls on the court to not shoot the ball, or just let the other team score." In today's nanny state, it's all about trying to preserve everyone's self esteem, results be damned.
