My childhood school days were spent in the state of illinois, before there was a President’s Day holiday. We always had Lincoln’s birthday off but never Washington’s birthday.

I appreciate people’s desire for occasional 3-day weekends, but we end up forgetting the reason for the holiday in the first place. Our two most revered presidents deserve a little thought.
