It’s Not Your Money, You Don’t Deserve to Keep All of It. by The Elephant's Child

Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-Chicago) had an interview on Don Wade & Roma radio show in Chicago this morning.  Towards the end of a wide-ranging interview, the hosts played a clip from this week’s Republican Presidential Debate where a California teenager named Tyler Hinsley asked “Of every dollar that I earn, how much do you think I deserve to keep?” Good question.

The co-host Don Wade asked the far-left Schakowsky to answer the same question.  After some initial conversation she replied, “I’ll put it this way, you don’t deserve to keep all of it.  It’s not a question of deserving, because what government is, is those things that we decide to do together. “

“We need to decide what is your fair share,” she said.  She declined, in spite of the host’s persistence, to answer what percentage of a person’s income they deserved to keep.  ‘I pay at a 35% rate, happy to do it,” she explained.

This is a typical understanding on the far left.  They see a person’s earnings as belonging first of all to the state.  “We decide to do together” indeed.  We get less and less ability to decide, and the government gets more. They tax, and the revenue becomes government money, for people like Ms. Schakowsky to play with, in the interest of liberal causes.  They take taxpayer money and use it to benefit the unions, who in turn collect dues from their members which they use for campaign contributions for Representative Schakowsky and President Obama, and in turn send their members out to turn out the vote for Representative Schakowsky, who will vote to raise taxes on the citizens  so that she has money to use to benefit the unions.  That’s the grand game of politics, and the Chicago way.  And so it goes.

Because they do not believe that you earned your money on your own. They believe that only with the help and support of government could you have made it. The truth is that many people could make more money if the government would just let them.

I really try to understand the liberal mind, but I’m not getting anywhere. It’s all government money and we have to turn it in so they can redistribute it. I just ran onto a line from Daniel Hannan, the EU representative from East Anglia, that fits right here. He said he “has struggled for years to explain that politicians who cant about fairness don’t mean equal treatment or justice, or, indeed, any practical outcome whatever. What they really mean is that they’re nice people, and they’re prepared to prove how nice they are with your money.”
Nice to hear from you!
