John Hinderaker at Powerline has an important and clear article based on a new report from the Institute for Energy Resources that I hope you will read. It is brief, comprehensive, and especially pertinent in the wake of the president’s speech yesterday and his ongoing lack of understanding of America’s energy resources.
The constant theme that America uses 25% of the world’s oil but has only 2% — to 3% of the world’s oil reserves is repeated constantly by Barack Obama and his sycophants. It is false. Mr. Obama’s lack of understanding, whether innocent or deliberate, of this simple fact has nearly bankrupted the United States and killed millions of high paying jobs.
Dec.5, 2011 — The U.S. Navy and the Agriculture Department announced plans to buy 450,000 gallons of non-food biofuels at a cost of $16 per gallon in the largest federal purchase of biofuels in U.S. history. The purchase is authorized by an executive order under the Obama administration’s “we can’t wait” (for Congressional debate or approval) campaign.
The biofuel, made from used cooking oil and algae, is meant as a demonstration aimed at promoting the use of biofuels to reduce dependence on unstable sources of foreign oil and reduce budget shocks from oil price hikes. The biofuel will be used for aircraft and surface ships of the “Great Green Fleet Carrier Strike Force” as a demonstration aimed at commercial aviation and the Defense Department. Surely the bankrupt and near bankrupt airlines would be delighted to spend $16 a gallon gor fuel as would the Defense Department whose budget is being slashed.
Please read this important Powerline post, with clear graphs, beautiful maps and a very short video. You will be glad you did. It is a beautifully done and clear exposition of the dangerously wrong direction that the administration has taken and is continuing to take in their misunderstanding of the world’s energy supplies.
Be sure to download the report from the Institute for Energy Research, it’s a keeper.

— The Defense Department has classified the Fort Hood massacre as “workplace violence.” Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) blasted the Defense Department and suggested that political correctness is being placed above the security of the nation’s Armed Forces at home.Thirteen people were killed and dozens more wounded at Fort Hood in an act of terrorism by radical Islam. “Workplace violence,” indeed.
Major Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist was allegedly inspired by radical U.S. born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki who was killed in an American drone strike in Yemen in late September. Members of the American military are increasingly targets of terrorists, not only on the battlefield, but here at home.
— Suspicions that the “Fast and Furious”operation by the ATF division of the Justice Department was intended to argue for controversial and stringent rules on gun ownership, seems to be true. Emails obtained by CBS News show that the illegal gun sales they ordered gun dealers to make, were intended to justify a new regulation called “Demand Letter 3″ which would require gun dealers to report the sale of multiple rifles. It would be the third ATF program requiring dealers to report tracing information.
Gun dealers who cooperated with ATF did it only because they were asked to by the U.S. Government, something that was against their own best judgment. ATF claimed to be tracking the guns, but that went out of control, and ended with the death of a Border Control agent. Reluctant dealers were afraid that their cooperation with ATF would lead to trouble for themselves.” Fast and Furious” went far beyond Congressional authorization. The Justice department declines to comment.
— Obama’s speech in Osawatomie made a strong case for more governmental oversight of you, not of the government. “For the first time in history, the reform we passed puts in place a consumer watchdog who is charged with protecting everyday Americans from being taken advantage of by mortgage lenders, payday lenders or debt collectors….Every day we go without a consumer watchdog in place is another day when a student, or a senior citizen, or a member of our Armed Forces could be tricked into a loan they can’t afford—something that happens all the time.”
Doesn’t that drip with elite condescension? You poor dumb boobs can’t manage your finances without the help of a wise governmental watchdog. I have read that the Obama’s were deeply in debt until “the money from the book came in.” I thought the way most people learned to manage money was to make a purchase that they couldn’t really afford and had to take the consequences. If someone cheats me, it’s my fault for allowing it to happen, and a lesson is learned. But nevermind, you won’t have to learn any lessons, you will have nanny government to protect you. Not just a nanny, but someone with nearly unlimited and undefined powers.
— The NAACP is so concerned that black and Hispanic Americans could lose the right to vote if they are required to show identification at the polls to prove that they are a resident and a citizen, that they have petitioned the United Nations over what they call an effort to disenfranchise black and Hispanic people. So the new civil right is — never having to prove that you are who you claim to be. Because people bussed in from a neighboring state and illegal residents might not be able to vote if they have to show their driver’s license or other proof of citizenship?
I have to show my driver’s license every time I write a check. I have to identify myself that way at the bank, to get an airplane ticket, and for so many other occasions that it is so normal that I don’t give it a thought. Asking people to identify themselves at the polls is an attempt to suppress the votes of black citizens? The NAACP sees this as a cynical attempt to suppress a surge in ethnic minority voting in 2008, so they are appealing to the UN to get more publicity. William Barber, a member of the association’s national board, said it was the “most vicious, coordinated and sinister attack to narrow participation in our democracy since the early 20th century”. Part of the campaign by the NAACP is to eliminate laws that prevent felons from voting, and of course they don’t believe that it’s necessary for one to be a citizen in order to vote either.

Here is the personal story of one 19 year-old survivor of the battleship Arizona on that peaceful December 7 morning in Pearl Harbor 70 years ago. He had just turned 19 in September. Like many young men on that day, he got a brutal introduction to war, and his world changed irrevocably. He fought a war, went to school on the GI Bill, became an engineer at Boeing, had four children, and became a relative of mine.
The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is disbanding at the end of this year.

Obama went to Osawatomie, Kansas today and gave a speech, pretending to be Teddy Roosevelt. Former president Theodore Roosevelt was well received in Osawatomie, but he managed to offend the rest of the country. President Obama went for a very long speech, just as Roosevelt did — Obama droned on for a solid hour.
A number of writers have suggested that Mr. Obama has a fantasy of his own greatness running in his head that encourages him to exaggerate and see things in rosy tones. He is ill-informed about history, and doesn’t bother with accurate statistics. In other words, they don’t think he really knows that he is lying, he just doesn’t know any better. Others are not so kind. They believe that he is deliberately lying to fool the public into accepting his stories. Mr. Obama has previously compared himself to Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan and now Teddy Roosevelt.
“Hope and Change” has been replaced with the equally vacuous “fairness” Obama believes that people should get a fair shot; pay their fair share; have a fair chance; restore fairness;have rules that are fair and honest and open; the height of unfairness; based on fair play, a fair shot and a fair share. He really wants you to understand that the evil Republicans aren’t fair, and Democrats are. Do remember what your mother or grandmother said when you whined, as a little kid, that something or other wasn’t fair. They instructed you gently that life isn’t fair. That remains true.
His general theme —beyond the fair bit — was that Wall Street, the banks, the millionaires and billionaires, the corporations (echoes of the Occupy movement?) have mistreated you. They have not been fair. Now your opportunity to be in the Middle Class is over, all the jobs are going overseas. Corporations and banks didn’t have enough regulation to keep them from abusing you poor defenseless people. Hard work doesn’t pay off. The millionaires and billionaires are growing ever richer while you descend into poverty.
Lots of talk about fairness, and then a lot of absolute garbage talk to convince you that you should be deeply envious of anyone who has more money, and understand that Obama will make everything fair for you — if you just trust him, and reelect him. China, with whom we supposedly must compete, has a failing solar panel business, because nobody wants solar shingles any more. Their high-speed train that Obama envies has been a financial disaster since few Chinese can afford to ride it and the cost overruns were spectacular. The vast majority of Chinese live on less than $3 a day, and the government just shut down a brand new empty city that they had built for lack of business or interest. But let’s not be distracted by piddly facts. It’s all about fairness.
But, Osawatomie, this is not just another political debate. This is the defining issue of our time. This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class. Because what’s at stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home, secure their retirement.
Under all the fairness talk, he offered the same old snake-oil: wind turbines, solar arrays, high-tech batteries, compete with China, infrastructure, everybody go to college, worst economy since the Great Depression, gridlock in Washington. There is not a single new idea. He has not learned anything at all., He does not change his mind. The Infrastructure turned out to be not shovel ready, the wind turbines don’t exist without continuing taxpayer subsidy, nor do the solar arrays. There is a worldwide glut of high-tech batteries and no one is buying enough electric cars to use up the batteries.
Obama apparently never grasped what was happening in the 1980s when Ronald Reagan’s tax-cutting, free-market policies unleashed an economic powerhouse that drove two decades of growth, record levels of employment and improved prosperity for everyone.
Obama wants his nominee to the new Consumer Protection Bureau — the last thing we need is another government bureau to regulate our lives — confirmed at once, so the bureau can start making consumer things fair for you. He wants his jobs bill passed, though even the Democrats turned up their noses at that one.
When Democrats claim they want more taxes to pay down the deficit, they never pay it down. They use the new revenue to spend on other things they want. It was a mean-spirited, class-envy speech of interminable length. If you didn’t come out of the speech with a good dose of real hate for “the rich” than Obama failed in his intent. It’s going to be a vicious campaign. Obama has nothing to campaign on except to drum up hatred and division. Sad.
