Just Look At What Obama’s Getting All Excited About! by The Elephant's Child

“Just to make the final point about the sequester” said President Obama at his Friday press conference, we ill get through this. This is not going to be an apocalypse, I think as some people have said.” Well, that’s a relief, but the “some people” who have been predicting an apocalypse — are the President himself and senior members of the administration.

Mr. Obama has considerable discretion as to how he prioritizes federal spending. He is attempting to implement the sequester to cause as much pain and discomfort as possible in order to extract another tax increase. But he just got a big tax increase on “the rich”last month. Wait until he finds out that his tax increase doesn’t bring in as much revenue as was predicted.

“The rich” have better accountants than the rest of us, and you might have noted that many companies paid increased dividends in December, thus avoiding the January tax hike. Or noticed a year or so ago, when John Kerry chose to moor his yacht in Rhode Island instead of Massachusetts and thereby save $400,000 in taxes. There is nothing illegal about that, nor improper. Massachusetts taxes were way out of line, and people can choose not to pay them.

The ability for people to react to painful stimulus (in this case, taxes) is a biological imperative related to survival of the species. How ignorant can the “elites” be not to realize that?

Of course wannabe totalitarians, such as Obama and Company do understand the concept. That is the motivation for them to try to control every aspect of our lives. They want to eliminate any chance for a reaction that boils down to defending ourselves.

We should always view any action by the government, regardless of the party controlling the Congress or the White House in terms of Martin Niemöller’s famous quotation:

“First they came for the Socialists…”

Perhaps it’s time to re-write Pastor Niemöller’s words to reflect more of what we see today:

First they came for my light bulbs, but I was silent because I didn’t want to argue with my neighbors, the Democrats.
Then they came for my child, to indoctrinate him in their beliefs, but I was silent because I knew the teachers would punish my child for my words….

Well, you can add hundreds more examples. Go for it.

Ah, but Pastor Niemoller’s words suggested a knowledge of what was going on, yet ignoring the evil because it didn’t (at first) apply to them. I think we’ve reached a point when people are just unaware of what is happening around them. I guess they just thought it was neat when they got a raise in their paycheck, and didn’t understand what happened when it vanished. I was silent when they came for my showerhead, because I had an old good one, but after trying a few CFL bulbs, light bulbs became a cause for me. But it’s not that they had evil intent with the light bulbs — stupid people didn’t understand the consequences. There is no need to replace the bulbs unless you want to save money, they give nasty light, and neither the CFLs nor the other kind are satisfactory replacements nor ready for prime time. They don’t do any research, don’t know what they are doing, and don’t understand the consequences.
