I went to school in Cincy in the 80's, and worked at WEBN, and I used to cross the Brent Spence Bridge (the name of which is a handy tongue-twister and vocal warm-up for local theater, TV, and radio people), and quite frankly, I think politicians started claiming the bridge was bad and needed to be replaced about ten minutes after the first car drove over it in 1963. They have been continually doing study after study to try and figure out the best route for the rebuild (they've more or less settled on building a parallel span to the west, and demolishing the old bridge, but they have not yet officially decided, and even then there's going to be a year's worth of surveying before they get around to announcing bids).

Even the Cincinnati papers, which are generally favorable to Obama, think that his comments about the bridge are stupid (they're more forgiving, thinking that he ma not know the exact structural status of the bridge (92% as of the last inspection) or the exact reasons for wanting it replaced (it's too small for the volume of traffic that it carries-nothing about the general condition of the bridge itself)).

The whole thing amounts to Obama's usual politics of cheap shots... he can't ever persuade on the merits of an issue, only attempt to insult and belittle his opponents.
