Jihad in Britain, and In The Other Nations of the West by The Elephant's Child

I don’t know if you know Janet Daley. She was born in America, graduated from U.C. Berkeley, and has been living and reporting in Britain for many years. Her column in today’s Telegraph is notable for her outlook on the Islamization of Britain. Elsewhere there is a column noting that France is not a safe place for Jews. We have been warned that without some serious and real change, Europe will be entirely Muslim within fifty years.

In the midst of the deeply unfunny news coverage of the two young British jihadi volunteers who were arrested on terror charges when they arrived back from Syria, there was one moment of comic absurdity. It seems that before setting off on their mission, Mohammed Ahmed and Yusuf Sarwar found it necessary to place orders with Amazon for those invaluable scholarly treatises, Islam for Dummies, The Koran for Dummies and Arabic for Dummies. Hilarity aside, there is something important to be noted here.

First, these 22-year-olds were obviously not the products of some extreme mosque which had drilled them in Islamist fundamentalism. In fact, they were so untutored in the religion to which they were nominally affiliated that they had to equip themselves with a crash course in its basic principles. Nor had they come from families which were inclined to endorse their terrorist fantasies. Indeed, their own parents were so horrified when they learned of the men’s activities that they turned them in to the police. So we need to ask, as a matter of urgency, where it came from, this bizarre determination to be inducted into a campaign of seditious murder that (we can assume from their decision to plead guilty to the terror charges) they fully intended to bring home with them. What causes young men to risk their own lives, and those of who knows how many others, for a cause about which they know so little that they have to mug it up before they catch the plane?

Do read the whole thing. There’s a lot of food for thought there that includes our own present border crisis.  Assimilation matters. She adds:

Contrary to all the educational shibboleths of our time, young men are motivated by aggression and power: their dreams are of glorious triumph over rivals. If they are denied these things – even in the ritualised forms that used to be provided by an education system that understood how dangerous male adolescence was – then they will seek them wherever they can be found. Gang violence, with its criminal initiation rites, or Muslim fanaticism can fill a void, offering not just a licence for brutality but for banding together into hostile tribes. There was a time – before characteristically male behaviour was devalued in favour of the female virtues of empathy and conciliation – when these proclivities were dealt with quite effectively by combative team sports and military cadet corps. Institutionalised aggression was supervised by adult authority until the young men grew up and became responsible for their own impulses.

The Uncomfortable Facts of Demographics by The Elephant's Child

de·mog·ra·phy n. The study of the characteristics of human populations,as size, growth, density, distribution, and vital statistics.

The perpetually discontented are sure that if they can just get enough new low-information voters through reforming immigration laws so the borders are more open and friendly, then they will be able to perpetually win all elections. But there are other trends in the world, one of the more notable is demographic, and is changing the world as we know it.

Our president has declared that his objective is to fundamentally transform America. What liberals really mean is they want a different society, made up of different people. They want people who are more like them, who do not disagree and argue, and who truly appreciate their enlightened government and how much they are improving things, or will improve them as soon as they get their next regulations in place and their next laws passed.

From Moonbattery:

The article aggressively advocates childlessness. This fits smoothly with the liberal campaigns to promote abortion and to normalize homosexuality (if only in the weakest of minds). Not having children also allegedly protects the planet from imaginary threats that the liberal press has sacrificed much of its credibility to convince us are real. Plus it saves money!

The Nazis were impatient. They wanted the groups they considered undesirable to disappear immediately. Liberals learned from the failure of their fellow progressives. They are willing to wait a few generations for Americans to fade into nonexistence.

North America will still be populated, even if the liberal ruling class has its way. That’s where the push to erase our borders completely through amnesty comes in. After America is gone, its place will be taken by a gloriously diverse Third World hellhole consisting of peasants and their oligarchical collectivist rulers. The future will look like a cross between Zimbabwe, Guatemala, and the Soviet Union. Or at least, that’s a politically correct statist’s dream.

No one who wants to disarm you means you well. The same goes for anyone who does not want you to reproduce. The liberal ruling class that excretes publications like Time is the sworn enemy of every American, including those who consider themselves part of it.

Interesting juxtaposition.

They used to make movies about large happy families: (Consult Netflix). You might enjoy Meet Me In St. Louis, (1949), Life With Father ((1947), Cheaper By the Dozen (1950), Bells On Their Toes (1952), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), The Seven Little Foys (1955), Spencer’s Mountain (1963), The Sound of Music (1965), Yours, Mine and Ours (1968), The Brady Bunch Movie (1995).

What’s the last movie about big families you have seen besides the Weasley family in the Harry Potter series?  What’s the last movie you have seen about happy families?  How many big families do you know?  Big defined as more than three.  Just something to think about.

The Democrat’s Big, Enormous, Gigantic Lie Strategy by The Elephant's Child

Democrats believe you are stupid. At least they are sure that most voters are stupid. So they believe that a well-turned phrase, repeated endlessly by every liberal politician and pundit, will implant itself in your brain and no elaborate Republican explanation will be able to overcome it.

Republicans respect the American people, and believe that if things are honestly explained, people will understand what is in their own self-interest. Republicans are very big on individualism and believe that millions of people, each pursuing their own self-interest, will for the most part, work out pretty well.

The case in point is Medicare. Democrats have not quite got their talking points down yet, but watch for it.  It revolves around “Republicans are trying to kill Medicare” and “Paul Ryan is going to throw Granny off the cliff.” Scaremongering has always worked, to some extent, for Democrats.

Medicare, as you know it, has already been totally changed by the Democrats in  ObamaCare. ObamaCare is law.  It just hasn’t taken effect yet. The outrageous distortions about the Ryan Medicare reform plan are coming from the very people who are speeding up Medicare’s path to insolvency.

They had to get ObamaCare passed and make it financially plausible, so they cut Medicare reimbursements to doctors and hospitals by $575 billion, and used that to finance two massive new entitlement programs in ObamaCare.  Last month, the president proposed taking another $480 billion out of Medicare to lower the deficit. Democrats have put a hard cap on Medicare spending. No more open-ended Medicare entitlement.

Medicare—as you know it—is already gone.  Republicans are trying to reform it so that it can be preserved, not only for those age 55 and over, but as protection for everyone.

Democrats have cut payments to providers so deeply that doctors will stop taking Medicare patients or go broke.  Eighty-seven percent of doctors say they will stop seeing or will restrict the number of Medicare patients they see.

Last year. Medicare expenditures reached $523 billion, but income was only $486—leaving a $37 billion deficit in just one year. Every day 10,000 new individuals are becoming eligible for Medicare. Democrats are focused on the fact that the largest medical expenses come in the final years of life. To offer generous health-care for the rest of society, they have to whittle down the cost of old people. All those unnecessary attempts to prolong life when the old people are just going to die soon anyway can be eliminated, or at least cut back.

To make sure that the cost of Medicare is held down to pre-determined guidelines, an unaccountable, 15-member Payment Advisory Board will use price-controls to control costs. There is no recourse if you don’t like their decisions. None.

Mark Steyn is the Guest on Uncommon Knowledge. by The Elephant's Child

Peter Robinson’s guest on Uncommon Knowledge this week is Mark Steyn, a self-described “happy warrior” and Cassandra.  His subject is demographics and the changes that the lack of babies and the dearth of religion are playing in Europe.   Combine demographics with Europe’s Social Democratic government and 3rd world immigration, and you have civilizational transformation, and the inevitable doom of the Western world.

This was the subject of Steyn’s last book, America Alone. The changes will be enormous, and an exhausted Europe is drifting mindlessly into something for which they are unprepared.

These dialogues are always fascinating.  Peter Robinson is a wonderful interviewer, and Mark Steyn one of our most interesting and thoughtful pundits.  Each of the five segments is about 7 minutes long, and you can watch them one at a time or all together.  All previous interviews are also available.  I recommend any of them unreservedly.
