Daniel Hannan, member of the European Parliament for Southeast England is a marvelous speaker. His speeches in the United States have left people in awe and wondering how come so many British politicians can speak so much better than out politicians can. Certainly their “Question Time” in Parliament when the Prime Minister has to answer questions from the members is good training, but I rather imagine that their universities have something to do with it as well. Perhaps we could ship our politicians over for a short course?
It isn’t just speaking well though. As we know by now, a mellow baritone voice is not enough to compensate for an absence of thought. Here’s something from Mr. Hannan that has stuck in my mind.
I have struggled for years to explain that politicians who cant about fairness don’t mean equal treatment or justice, or, indeed, any practical outcome whatsoever. What they really mean is that they’re nice people, and they’re prepared to prove how nice they are with your money.

Liberals not only live in their own little world, they have their own little language. It sounds the same as ours, the words and syntax familiar, but is in fact entirely different. Normal people think they are saying one thing, but they mean something else altogether.
At no time is it more important to be fluent in liberalese than election-time, when such important issues teeter in the balance.
To that end, the wise and estimable Renaissance Guy has composed a field guide to the silly season — an invaluable resource for anyone who intends to vote. I highly recommend everyone familiarize themselves with his Liberal to English Dictionary.

Democrats WON’T ALLOW more drilling…
If you want affordable transportation any time this decade, or next — if you want electricity to remain affordable — you damn well better vote Republican this fall. They are the only party that is in favor of increasing all our domestic energy supplies.

First we learned that pot causes psychosis. Now researchers say smoking pot also shrinks the brain — particularly the hippocampus and amygdala which are involved with emotion and memory, and regulating fear and aggression. Bush Derangement Syndrome anyone?
Now I’d like you to do a little experiment of your own. Think of the most hysterical Bush hater you know… the ones who froth at the mouth and nearly burst blood vessels every time the President is mentioned. Got one in mind? OK…
They smoke pot don’t they?
…I’m just sayin!

Multiple studies confirm what we have long known to be true: conservatives are far more honest than liberals. Liberals lie more, they cheat more, they steal more, they bear false witness more.
We consider this a dog bites man story, but the results are overwhelming:
[T]here is a striking gap between the manner in which liberals and conservatives address the issue of honesty.
Consider these results:
Is it OK to cheat on your taxes? A total of 57 percent of those who described themselves as “very liberal” said yes in response to the World Values Survey, compared with only 20 percent of those who are “very conservative.” When Pew Research asked whether it was “morally wrong” to cheat Uncle Sam, 86 percent of conservatives agreed, compared with only 68 percent of liberals.
Ponder this scenario, offered by the National Cultural Values Survey: “You lose your job. Your friend’s company is looking for someone to do temporary work. They are willing to pay the person in cash to avoid taxes and allow the person to still collect unemployment. What would you do?”
Almost half, or 49 percent, of self-described progressives would go along with the scheme, but only 21 percent of conservatives said they would.
When the World Values Survey asked a similar question, the results were largely the same: Those who were very liberal were much more likely to say it was all right to get welfare benefits you didn’t deserve.
The World Values Survey found that those on the left were also much more likely to say it is OK to buy goods that you know are stolen. Studies have also found that those on the left were more likely to say it was OK to drink a can of soda in a store without paying for it and to avoid the truth while negotiating the price of a car.
Another survey by Barna Research found that political liberals were two and a half times more likely to say that they illegally download or trade music for free on the Internet…
And that’s just the beginning. The column goes on from there with many more similar results. Read the full article here. And I think the author is correct that it is liberalism itself that causes liberals to have such a deficiency in honesty. Being told truth is relative has consequences. Being told you are entitled to things that arent yours has consequences. Bad ideas beget bad behavior.
After the ceaseless barrage of lies and false accusations from liberals for the past 7 years, it’s particularly refreshing and welcome to have objective proof of just how much more dishonest they really are.

…for daring to hold Obama and Hillary accountable. Imagine that! The mainstream media for once asks Obama and Hillary a handful of the kind of “gotcha” questions that Republicans almost exclusively get, and lefties are apoplectic!
An excellent measure of just what a powder-puff, love-fest, cake-walk Obama has been given thus far. If he chokes this badly under mild media pressure, perhaps he won’t be as difficult to defeat as I feared.

Okay, I know we’ve been a little heavy on the YouTube videos lately, but these two really should be viewed together. The first is highly disturbing, the second a highly amusing commentary on the whole cult of Obama, dredging up an old Cake song to great effect. But watch both, they really do go together…

The Earth warmed a tiny bit, in the recent past — for a while. This much we know (assuming measurements are accurate), but pretty much everything else “global warming” proponents claim is a mixture of theory and completely debunked horsehockey.
We do know that the Earth has warmed. Indeed, it has a long history of warming and cooling — but we do not know that the Earth will continue to warm. Environmentalists thought we knew. Al Gore tells us it is “scientific consensus” and therefore beyond debate. Unfortunately for Al, as with flat-Earth and geocentric theories, facts often have a pesky tendency to prove scientific consensus not only wrong, but meaningless.
Last December, a new study was published in the Royal Meteorological Society’s International Journal of Climatology to deafening media silence, that proves the computer models, upon which scientists are basing all their predictions of warming, do not work. When they entered in historic climate data — measurements from the past that we know to be accurate — the computer models completely failed to predict today’s current climate conditions. If they can’t predict the present, they most certainly can’t predict the future.
So now we are back to square one. We don’t know if the Earth will continue to warm, or if it will stay the same, or if it will get cooler.
But there are some new facts that you should bear in mind.
First, the globe hasn’t warmed since 2000. Contrary to environmentalists’ claims, global temperature has remained pretty much the same since 2001.
Secondly, the polar ice-caps are not disappearing as Al Gore told us. Not only has the Arctic ice-cap returned to its previous size, and is actually thicker than before, the antarctic ice cap is nearly one-third bigger than normal! So you can quit losing sleep worrying about penguins and polar bears.
Also, new data from the U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) confirms that, like much of the rest of the hemisphere, this winter has been colder than normal:
Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.
The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January “was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average.”
China is surviving its most brutal winter in a century. Temperatures in the normally balmy south were so low for so long that some middle-sized cities went days and even weeks without electricity because once power lines had toppled it was too cold or too icy to repair them.
There have been so many snow and ice storms in Ontario and Quebec in the past two months that the real estate market has felt the pinch as home buyers have stayed home rather than venturing out looking for new houses.
In just the first two weeks of February, Toronto received 70 cm of snow, smashing the record of 66.6 cm for the entire month set back in the pre-SUV, pre-Kyoto, pre-carbon footprint days of 1950. [read more]
Now, as the article states, one winter does not a trend make. But it is important to note that this years’ unusually cold winter, and the lack of any significant warming over the past seven years, fly in the face of everything Al Gore and the envirowhackos have been telling us.
And an increasingly large number of scientists are standing up and questioning the global warming mantra,
Last month, Oleg Sorokhtin, a fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, shrugged off manmade climate change as “a drop in the bucket.” Showing that solar activity has entered an inactive phase, Prof. Sorokhtin advised people to “stock up on fur coats.”
He is not alone. Kenneth Tapping of our own [Canadian] National Research Council, who oversees a giant radio telescope focused on the sun, is convinced we are in for a long period of severely cold weather if sunspot activity does not pick up soon.
Don’t believe the hype. As we said last week, “It’s the Sun, Stupid!” The Earth is warming for the same reasons Mars and other planets have been shown to be simultaneously warming: the Sun does not always put out a constant amount of energy. It goes through phases of increased and decreased activity.
The idea that the Earth is going to continue to warm is not only an unproven theory, but much of what it is based on has been proven to be untrue. Not only has Earth not warmed in over 7 years, this winter has been the coldest in a long while. And as many scientists have postulated, we may be in for, or already in, a period of global cooling.
I wonder if environmentalists will insist we drive more SUVs? Somehow I doubt it.
