Dana Perino, President Bush and Secretary Tony Snow

One of the best men in Washington DC will be leaving shortly. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow announced he will step down September 14, at which time his Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino will take over.

Tony has been battling colon cancer for three years. He had hoped it was in remission when he took the job, what he referred to as a, “dream job,” as President Bush’s third Press Secretary, Snow announced in March that doctors had discovered the cancer had recurred and had spread to his liver. Tony has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past several months and says his latest CAT scan looks encouraging. He will undergo another chemotherapy treatment and then have regular CAT scans.

I hope and pray that Tony is well on his way to a full recovery. And I hope that you will as well.

Tony says his departure has nothing to do with cancer and is simply because he can no longer afford the pay cut he took to become press secretary. He plans to take up public speaking, return to radio and TV work, and play a more public role in combatting cancer. He adds that he hopes to write a book dealing with how to deal with sickness.

Asked about his long-range plans, Snow, facing seasoned correspondent Helen Thomas, seated in the front row and center of the press room, said: “When I’m your age, I want to be sitting in the front row making life a living hell for a presidential press secretary.”

We wish Tony all the best and pray for his speedy recovery.

Russian moonAnatoly Perminov, the head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, announced yesterday that Russia plans a manned moon mission by the year 2025, and a permanent manned moon base within 2 to 7 years thereafter.

I fully expect that a flag in the Sea of Tranquility and a perfectly rational explanation why the moon belongs to mother Russia will follow.

Mike Nifong and James Earle

Disgraced prosecutor Mike Nifong and disgraceful prosecutor Ronnie Earle

Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith III has sentenced former Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong to jail for criminal contempt. It’s good to see some semblance of justice finally meted out in the Duke Lacrosse non-rape non-case. Nifong has already lost his job and lost his law license, but the one day sentence is much too lenient in my humble opinion. Prosecutors all across the country need to get the message loud and clear that abusing their offices for political ends will not be tolerated.

Now we just need another judge to toss the corrupt, partisan hack, Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earle, in the slammer for his blatant abuse of office.

Meanwhile, Republican US Attorney in Seattle, John McKay, outright refused to investigate allegations of fraud in the 2004 election for fear of upsetting the liberal Democrat establishment in which he would soon be seeking employment — even though that election was later determined to have contained the worst case of vote-fraud in Washington state history.

So, Democrats smeared Alberto Gonzales for firing the man who refused to investigate a crooked election! And somehow it ends up being evidence of Republican corruption??? Give me a break!

Yes, there is a widespread culture of corruption indeed — it permeates the Democrat party at every level, from Washington DC to Washington state and the overwhelmingly liberal-Democrat media that carry their water and cover for them.
