Democrats: Still most unpopular Congress EVER! by American Elephant

Poor Donkey

Six feet under and digging fast

Not content with their previous record as the most unpopular Congress ever recorded, Democrats are soaring to new all-time lows:

A paltry 11 percent rated Congress positively, beating the previous low of 14 percent in July.

By comparison, almost three times as many Americans approve of President Bush’s performance. Even at their most unpopular, the Republican congress was never anywhere near this loathed.

I repeat what I said last July when Democrats first broke the all time low rating:

No congress has been this unpopular since—well, since the last time Democrats controlled congress in 1992 . No congress has ever scored lower, although they came close in 1979 with a 19% approval rating when—no surprise here—Democrats were also in control.

And for good reason…undermining the country and the military in wartime, unconstitutional powergrabs, vote fraud, leaking classified documents, over 300 partisan witch-hunt investigations that have uncovered a grand total of zero illegal or unethical acts, a cornucopia of new taxes, even more secretive and unaccountable earmark spending, and corruption that makes Bob Ney look like a Catholic nun.

OREM – Betty Perry pleaded innocent Tuesday to charges she failed to water her lawn and resisted arrest when an officer attempted to cite her…

“Today, law enforcement in Orem has enshrined itself as the laughing stock of our country by prosecuting a 70-year-old great-grandmother for allegedly not watering her lawn,” Allred said. “This ill-conceived action ensures Orem’s law enforcement authorities first place in the [Guinness World Records] for stupidity.”

Even Canadian officials seek American healthcare by American Elephant

Even Canadian government officials are coming to America for better care. Where are Canadians going to flee for real healthcare when our system is just as crappy as theirs? Where are we going to go?

Liberal MP Belinda Stronach, who is battling breast cancer, travelled to California last June for an operation that was recommended as part of her treatment, says a report.

The Ministry of Health by American Elephant

Minhea

Another day, another Stalinist healthcare plan! Seriously, ginormously Stalinist. Hillary has unveiled her frightening new plan to destroy the entire American Healthcare system. And there is no question it will absolutely obliterate the healthcare system we have today — the finest healthcare in the world. Everyone may be covered under Democrats plans, but God forbid anyone should get sick!

“This is not government-run. There will be no new bureaucracy,” says Hillary.

Horsehockey! That’s a bald-faced lie.

This plan gives government vast new control and power at every level of healthcare. Power over you, power over your doctors and nurses, power over your hospital and other providers, power over your insurance company, and power over all American businesses of any size.

There is no way to do what she is calling for without massive, massive new federal bureaucracy and control.

Hillary’s federally mandated system forces every American to buy healthcare whether they want it or not. The government will determine if you can afford it. It forces every business, small and large, to offer healthcare whether they want to or not and whether they feel they can afford it or not. Again, the government will tell you what your business can afford. And guess what else you’ll be paying for? Everyone who the government determines can’t afford heathcare.

What a BRILLIANT plan to lower the cost of healthcare for Americans! A massive new federal bureaucracy on top of eveything we already pay for that forces you to pay for your own health insurance, PLUS forces you to foot the bill for people who dont have insurance! (a great percentage of the time, for no other reason than because they dont want to). That sounds SO much more efficient and inexpensive. Lord knows whenever I want something done efficiently and at low cost, the first place I turn is the federal government! BRILLIANT!

New Democrat Logo

“Shared Responsibilty”

Her Orwellian plan further Forces insurance companies to insure everyone and cover everthing no matter what. So why have insurance at all!?  Why dont we all just wait til we gat sick, THEN get insurance!

Insurance companies will also be forced to offer what she calls “fair” prices, which can only mean that the government will decide what fair is. You should know, the governmen not very long ago decided what fair prices for immunizations were and drove all but three companies out of business! The three that remain often arent able to produce enough flu vaccine to meet demand!

Oh this plan sounds just GREAT!!!

Doctors and hospitals will be forced to offer “affordable” care. In case you haven’t learned to decipher Hillary’s NewSpeak, that means the government will be deciding what affordable is. And you know what that means? That means hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses and other providers fleeing the medical industry because its just not worth it anymore and millions of students who decide they dont want to go into medicine afterall! Brilliant!

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs

“Working families will receive a refundable tax credit to help them afford high-quality health coverage…The refundable tax credit will be designed to prevent premiums from exceeding a percentage of family income, while maintaining consumer price consciousness in choosing health plans.”

That’s right, healthcare prices should be fair! They should never exceed a certain percentage of a person’s income. And if they do? Generous, benevolent government will pick up the rest!

Except government doesn’t have any money. It only takes money from you and me. So how does Komrade Hillary propose we pay for the program she laughably estimates will cost a mere $110 billon per year? Well, by repealing Bush’s evil, “tax cuts for the rich,” naturally.

But wait, you say, those tax cuts have resulted in the biggest increases of revenue into the government piggy bank in American history — wouldn’t repealing them reverse those record-breaking increases? OF COURSE THEY WOULD! But Democrats are physiologically incapable of understanding any economic principle more complicated than “must-raise-taxes!’

The truth is also that the Bush tax cuts turned the economy around, and kept it from dipping into a second recession after 9/11. Raising taxes, which Democrats are hell-bent on doing, is guaranteed to hurt the economy. And how much more will her plan cost then? When millions more Americans are out of work?

What Hillary has proposed is not a plan to lower the cost of healthcare — it’s a disaster plan that will  drive the cost of healthcare into the stratosphere and send quality and availability of service straight to the morgue.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it

Far and away the greatest contributing factors to the high cost of healthcare are the federal government’s already suffocating regulation, and the cost of liability. HMO’s were born from there only adding to the problem. Hillary’s plan does nothing about the latter two and makes the biggest contributing factor one hundred times worse.

And by controlling the prices of prescription drugs, as Komrade Hillary’s plan promises to do, she will destroy innovation. We have been enjoying a virtual gold-rush in new treatments and medicines because pharmaceutical companies have been able to pour money into research and development. When Hillary takes that profit away, you can kiss your cures goodbye.

Above and beyond the cost, and above and beyond the crushing blow her plan will deal to availability of service, the availabilty of doctors and the innovation of new treatments and cures, look at how involved the government has already gotten in making lifestyle choices for you. Democrats are already saying they will force you to buy insurance, force you to go to the doctor, theyre already outlawing fats and going after fast food. Their justification is that the public is having to pay for some of the cost of healthcare. Imagine how involved the government will be in regulating your personal choices and activities when they are in charge of the whole system!

And one and two and bend and three! Stretch, Comrades, stretch!

How long will it be before they have you lined up in rows performing mandatory morning calisthenics?

Other socialist healthcare systems have failed, contrary to what Komrade Michael Moore says. They are falling over eachother in the rush to de-regulate and privatize. In the meantime however, they are refusing service — refusing service — to people who smoke, and people who are too fat. They are encouraging the abortion of babies with medical problems and refusing life-saving procedures when they decide the odds are not good enough. People are dying waiting in line for care.

Oh, and what about the 12-20 million illegal immigrants who make up at least half of the uninsured? Hillary won’t say if they’ll be covered.

OF COURSE THEY WILL!  Democrats can’t wait to pass amnesty so they can sign 20 million illegal immigrants up to vote. And who do you think is going to foot the bill for them? You are.

What a BRILLIANT plan! Ingenious really! Make healthcare more affordable by quadrupling the bureaucracy and then forcing you to pay for 20 million illegal immigrants and 27 million college kids who would rather spend their money on beer than on insurance on top of all your normal costs!

Why didn’t anybody think of it before? Oh yeah, they did…

Without a doubt, Mr. Reid and the Democrats have an obligation to pry deeply into the qualifications and character of the person nominated to the top law enforcement job in the country. What they don’t have is the right to usurp the president’s role in choosing a nominee who shares his — or possibly even her — ideology and priorities.

Polar Bear

Surely you’ve heard the media hyperventalating about a supposedly shrinking arctic ice cap, drowning polar bears, the end of the world, yadda yadda, woof woof…

But shhhhhhh! What the media haven’t been telling you—and won’t tell you—is that the antartic ice cap is bigger than ever before.

In fact there’s a great deal they haven’t been telling you lately and won’t be telling  you anytime soon—like reporting on any of the 500 peer-reviewed scientific studies that dispute the findings of the anthropogenic global warming doom-sayers.

Or reporting on any of the increasing number of experts who believe current climate change isn’t man made at all, but part of a natural cycle of warming and cooling caused by fluctuations in the suns output.

Why do liberals hate science so much?

Liberals’ Bumper-Sticker Mentality by American Elephant

Benjamin Franklin

I had to laugh when I heard John Edwards call the War on Terror a bumper-sticker — I guess one doesn’t see many bumpers from the backseat of a town-car.

Not once since the war began have I seen those words on any bumper, in fact, other than the apparently controversial sentiment, “Support the Troops,” I don’t see many conservative bumper-stickers at all.

But I have seen, “No Blood For Oil”, “War is NOT a Family Value”, “Bush Lied, People Died”, “War Never Solved Anything”, “Peace Works”, “Practice pre-emptive LOVE”, “War is NOT Pro-Life”, “Dissent is the Highest Form of Patriotism”, and my favorite, “Pollution is a moral issue” (right above the exhaust pipe of an old black-smoke-belching VW van). Often they’re all on the same car, invariably adjacent to a prominently displayed and fading, “Kerry/Edwards 04,” and a picture of a marijuana leaf.

And that really is just scratching the surface. I know you’ve seen them too. There are thousands of such inanities plastered on thousands of “progressive” Prius posteriors.

No, the fact is that there are very few conservative bumper stickers for the same reason conservative protests are virtually unheard of — they’re silly. They accomplish nothing other than to broadcast the simplemindedness and more often than not, ignorance, of the owner.

War never solved anything? I concede it has a certain ring to it. It’s short, sweet, straight to the point. The problem is that it’s also factually incorrect. Of course war has solved many of the worlds greatest ills — slavery, genocide, Nazism, Fascism, Communism and tyranny of all sorts. It has also now solved the problem of Saddam Hussein. No longer do we need worry about that particular rogue tyrant aiding terrorists bent on our destruction. And that, in itself, makes the world a great deal safer.

And yet this bumper-sticker mentality pervades the left. It betrays the emotionalism that is the foundation of their ideology. That their slogans are so demonstrably wrong is unimportant — that they sound good is all that matters.

An excellent example of this has been the widespread use by liberals of a misquotation of Benjamin Franklin they use to protest the Terrorist Surveillance Program. They plaster it everywhere — from websites to yes, bumper-stickers and protest signs — no doubt you’ve seen or heard it somewhere:

Liberal protestors display their ignorance

Of course Benjamin Franklin would never say such an idiotic thing. We trade some liberty for security every day. If you don’t believe me try exercising your “right” to keep driving next time you see a set of police lights flashing in your rear-view mirror, or try opening a bank account without giving any personal information.

The original quote is actually,

“Those who would give up ESSENTIAL LIBERTY to purchase a little TEMPORARY SAFETY, deserve neither LIBERTY nor SAFETY”

Now, of course, that’s an entirely different ball of wax.

Anyone who would argue that international phone calls with suspected terrorists compromise an “essential liberty” simply isn’t dealing in reality. You can’t cross the the border without the distinct possibility of a warrantless search of your vehicle, your possessions, and your person — coming and going — how is an international telephone call to suspected enemies more sacrosanct than an innocent day-trip to British Columbia?

The constitution doesn’t prohibit search or seizure, it prohibits government from performing unreasonable search and seizure. And there’s nothing unreasonable about listening in to phone calls placed from telephone numbers found in Khalid Sheik Mohammad’s laptop. Yet the fact that he had a phone number on his hard drive isn’t sufficient evidence to provide the “probable cause” necessary to secure the warrant liberals demand we get. No doubt many of those phone numbers belong to people plotting against the United States, but if we were to follow liberal’s bumper-sticker understanding of the Constitution, we wouldn’t be able to listen to terrorists making calls to cell members inside the United States because simply being buddies with one of the most heinous terrorists in the world doesn’t clear the threshold of probable cause.

The irony is that the essential liberty Franklin was referencing was the right to defend oneself and the temporary safety was a reference to appeasing violent marauders (or dare I say, terrorists) in the hope they wouldn’t attack. He was defending a liberty liberals are against and denouncing the appeasement they favor.

So here we have liberals either knowingly bastardizing or ignorantly misquoting Franklin to make an argument at odds with what he was saying in the first place. Whether they are being intentionally dishonest or naively uninformed is of absolutely no interest to them, either are acceptable, all that matters is that it sounds good.

Or as liberals in the news media have become fond of saying, “the facts are wrong, but the narrative is right.”

Come to think of it, that wouldn’t make a bad bumper sticker:

LIBERALISM: The Facts are Wrong, But the Narrative is Right!

But that would be silly.

Lamborghini introduced its 2008, fighter-jet inspired special-edition at the Frankfurt auto show. Carbon fiber body, 650 hp/12 cylinder, leather interior, and what I believe is the first all LCD instrument panel. Only 20 cars will be made.

The astronomical $1.4 million pricetag easily makes the Lamborghini “Reventón” as they are calling it, the most expensive penile compensation on the planet.

The New York Times

Turns out that the New York Times published that despicable ad by MoveOn.org calling General Petraeus a liar and accusing him of betraying his country at bargain basement prices.

The fringe leftist group confirms they paid only $65,000 for the ad which according to the Times would normally sell for $181,682! That’s more than $116,000 off.

Citing the shared liberal bent of the group and the Times, one Republican aide on Capitol Hill speculated that it was the “family discount.”

“I’m surprised they had to pay anything at all for the ad,” the GOP staffer said. “They could have just asked the editorial page to run it and it wouldn’t have cost them a cent.”

But don’t call them biased!

Now Rudy Giuliani is taking on the Times, demanding the same deep discount. And Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive has filed a complaint with the FEC over the Times potentially illegal sales practices.

Freedom’s Watch, who have produced ads by Iraq war veterans and their families stressing the importance of winning in Iraq (watch the ads here), plans to run an ad rebutting moveon.org’s despicable smear. They say they were charged a great deal more for ads they have already placed with the times, but they intend to demand the same discount for their new ad.

Meanwhile, Democrats in congress refused to allow a vote condemning MoveOn’s smear of General Petraeus, nor would any of the Democrat presidential candidates condemn the ad.

Despicable.

Republicans should not let the issue go until Democrats condemn such vile tactics. Of course, that would probably require Democrats to stop using such tactics themselves first.

Ted Olson for AG! by American Elephant

Theodore Olson

If I didn’t know already how eminently qualified former Solicitor General Ted Olson is for the job of Attorney General, this would convince me:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid vowed on Wednesday to block former Solicitor General Theodore Olson from becoming attorney general if President George W. Bush nominates him to replace Alberto Gonzales.

…”He’s a partisan, and the last thing we need as an attorney general is a partisan,” Reid told Reuters in a brief hallway interview on Capitol Hill.

So, let’s see. Olson isn’t too partisan to serve as Assistant Attorney General, or Solicitor General, but he’s too partisan to serve as AG? Nonsense.

This, like everything else Democrats are hysterical about these days, is really all about the 2000 election.

Ted Olson represented then Governor Bush successfully in the infamous Bush v. Gore case before the Supreme Court. Democrats have convinced themselves that Bush stole that election, in spite of all the facts. The SCOTUS ruled 7-2, that’s right, seven to two,  that what Al Gore was trying to do — namely steal the election by scavenging for extra votes in only the precincts that favored him — was unconstitutional. Let me repeat that for all you liberals out there, the Supreme Court ruled seven to two that Al Gore was violating the constitution in his attempt to steal the election.

The 5-4 decision was regarding only the remedy. They had already determined 7-2 that Gore was violating the constitution, the question then became were they going to stop it. The four biggest liberals on the court came to the incomprehensible conclusion that it was not the job of the Supreme Court of the United States to stop unconstitutional behavior.

Lays bare the liberals’ bald-faced lie that it was conservatives on the court that were  behaving in a partisan manner

And so Ted Olson was successful not because he was partisan, but because he was on the right side of the law, and Democrats were violating it. Exactly the kind of man we want to head the Justice Department.

So I say, Ted Olson for Attorney General, Mr. President! He is superbly qualified and a man of great honesty and inegrity. And seeing Demcorats smearing and attacking this highly qualified man of character will give Americans a much needed reminder of just how thoroghly dishonest and corrupt the Democrat party has become.

Democrats Calling the Kettle Black by American Elephant

crooks and liars

Democrats’ latest excuse for why our troops must immediately tuck tail and run from Iraq is that the “surge” — despite all evidence to the contrary — really isn’t working.  Now they say there’s been no political progress.

They also claim there’s been no reduction in violence while simultaneously claiming the reduction in violence is because of war lords, not our troops. The fact that several of their members have come back from trips to Iraq lauding the substantial progress lays bare this latest lie.

Nevermind that, like Democrats, the Iraqi parliament has been on vacation for the past month and can hardly be expected to make political progress in absentia — political progress has, nonetheless, been made.

One day after Democrat leaders called Maliki, “incompetent,” and demanded that the duly-elected leader of a sovereign nation be removed, the leader of the largest Iraqi insurgency surrendered and agreed to cooperate with the Iraqi government.

Then days later, Maliki and top Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurdish political leaders announced they had come to consesnsus on a range of fundamental issues.

And it occurred to me that in the past three weeks or so, Iraqis have compromised more in their national interest, than Democrats have compromised in the past seven years in ours.

Energy policy, healthcare, tort reform, social security reform, national security, the war, you name it and Democrats have put their own partisan interest ahead of the national good in every case. They’ve demagogued and demonized, leaked, lied and mischaracterized, but when it comes to solving the very real problems that face our nation, compromise has been off the Democrats’ table.

Even with majorities in both houses, President Bush still made concessions to Democrats on issue after issue after issue in the interest of bipartisanship. But the left has become utterly totalitarian. Compromise is not in their lexicon. Political victory at any and all costs is all they seem to understand anymore.

Perhaps if Democrats want to demand that Iraqis compromise, they should start by showing them how it’s done.
