Stop! In God’s Name, Just Stop! by The Elephant's Child

You would think President Obama would be overwhelmed with all he has on his desk: the big Cairo speech, the Chrysler bankruptcy, the GM bankruptcy, a jobs report that says the economy has lost another 345,000 jobs in May, clear evidence that the stimulus isn’t working, his wife and kids off shopping in Paris, nobody wants the prisoners from Guantanamo, a federal deficit that is projected to reach $1.8 trillion this fiscal year, a Cap-and-Trade bill that will raise costs for everything we buy, and little things like National Security, a War in Iraq, a War in Afghanistan, so now  he wants to reform the entire American health care system, and get it done by August.

The official scorekeeper for health reform legislation in Congress has stated that the reforms proposed by the administration could — increase costs.

The administration proposes three main reforms in order to reduce costs:

  1. increased use of information technology, especially medical records.
  2. disease management, especially follow-up on chronic diseases.
  3. comparative effectiveness research, or cost-benefit analysis to find the best treatment for each cost dollar.

The Congressional Budget Office says these reforms could increase costs.  The reforms won’t work, and there are no incentives here to encourage doctors or patients to seek cost-effective care. CBO suggested— improving incentives.

The result?  Shoot the messenger!  “Budget Scolds” from the Washington Post, “The bean counters who could kill healthcare reform” from The New Republic. The trouble is that outside research pretty much agrees with the CBO.

American families over the last year have lost 8 percent of their net worth partly as a result of  clumsy government meddling.  If Obama has his way they will soon be hit with a 100 percent increase in public debt.  Without the Obama surge in debt and the taxes that will entail, taxpayers will face the prospect of 60 to 70 percent income tax rates in the future to pay for the $48 trillion of unfunded liabilities under existing entitlement programs.  So the President wants to top that off with a universal health care entitlement.

There was some mention a while back about raising taxes only on “the rich.”  Uh huh.  If the cost of everything you buy goes up dramatically, that’s not technically a tax, is it?  But a little inflation here, a little inflation there, and first thing you know everybody’s poor.  Or something like that.

The Amazing Benefits of the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill. by The Elephant's Child

The Heritage Foundation reported on the benefits of the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill.  “Nothing.  Zip. Zero. Zilch.  There are no benefits for the American people in the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill.”  Now that’s plain speaking.

Mr. Waxman (L.) and Mr. Markey (R.) have crafted a bill — which Mr. Waxman admits that he hasn’t read and he doesn’t really know what’s in the bill — which will do nothing whatsoever to prevent ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change.’

Christopher Monckton costed out the Climate Bill. ” To prevent a “global warming” of only 1° Fahrenheit, we must forego the emission of 1 – 10 trillion tons of CO2.  Waxman/Markey states that CO2 emissions in the US by the year 2050 will be cut by five-sixths of today’s 5 billion tons.  That would prevent just 0.0005 – 0.005 Fahrenheit degrees of warming a year or 1° F. in 200 – 2000 years — at a cost of $180 billion a year.”

SPPI president, Robert Ferguson says:

According to Monckton’s calculations, cutting ‘global warming’ by the 7°s F. that the UN predicts will happen this century would cost $250 trillion to $2,500 trillion.  That is beyond expensive, particularly when you find that ‘global warming’ is not happening anyway.

But never fear, whatever is wrong, the Democrat Congress will endeavor to fix it; and if they have time they might even read the bill.

SHOCK! NBC Criticizes Obama! by American Elephant

Is the love affair finally over? Is the bloom finally off the rose?

Here we are, about four and a half months into the desolation of Obamanation (feels like a lot longer, doesn’t it?) and Barack Obama has spent more than all previous presidents combined; he has nationalized the banking industry, the auto industry, and is working hard to nationalize the health care industry; unemployment has skyrocketed; the trillion dollar stimulus has accomplished nothing but flushing a trillion dollars down the toilet; Obama has circumnavigated the globe apologizing for America, played fast and loose with facts, blamed everyone for everything except himself and the Democrats that have controlled congress for the last two and a half years; insulted most of the heads of state he has met and a few he hasn’t — and the National Broadcasting Company has just now uttered their first significant criticism of “the One” for his embarrassing addiction to teleprompters.

Sure, it’s milquetoast criticism, but remember, NBC News is the home of Chris “I felt this thrill going up my leg” Matthews, bowing Brian Williams, and Keith Uberwoman — compared to their regular lap-doggery, this is scathing!
