American Elephants

Any and All Democrat Mistakes, Failures, Flubs and Fouls are Bush’s Fault. by The Elephant's Child

Much in the news today is Congressional “shock” that they were not briefed by the CIA on a program that they originally authorized; but which never came close to becoming operational.

This seems at first glance to be an attempt to butter over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s claim that the CIA lied to Congress. (CIA Director Panetta briefed both the house and the Senate on the same day, but the Senate Intelligence Committee has had nothing to say).

Director Panetta has said that there was no indication of anything illegal or inappropriate about the effort.  But Democrats on the House committee demanded that Panetta take back his claim that the CIA has never misled Congress.  Now why would that make me think that they were trying to give political cover to Ms. Pelosi?

The program was a plan to capture or kill al Qaeda operatives, and never — according to a CIA senior intelligence officer — came close to becoming operational.  Though I’m not sure what the fuss is about.  Wasn’t that what we wanted, to capture or kill al Qaeda?

Panetta said that according to his notes, Vice President Cheney directed the CIA not to tell Congress specifics of the secret program.  Possibly because secret programs have a way of appearing on New York Times front page shortly after intelligence committees are briefed?

Never mind.  It’s just another case of politics as usual.  Dragging out “Bush did it” is the favorite attention deflector in the Obama playbook.

Democrat Group Launches Smear Campaign Against Firefighter in Sotomayor Case by American Elephant

Sonja Sotomayor played racial favorites from the bench, and got busted by the Supreme Court which reversed her, as it so often has. Even those Justices who dissented from the majority opinion found fault with Sotomayor’s jurisprudence. All of this makes Sotomayor, who is also a member of the racist group “La Raza” (Spanish for “the Race”) look like the biased, activist, radical she is.

Democrats cannot abide that kind of truth-telling. So, they have launched an unprecedented smear campaign against the firefighter plaintiff and private citizen, Frank Ricci, for having the audacity to bring forth a suit that caused Sotomayor to reveal her bias, incompetence, and unfitness for the Federal (or any other) bench. How dare he!

Naturally, Democrats concluded that he must be destroyed. Afterall, it’s what they do:

On Friday, citing in an e-mail “Frank Ricci’s troubled and litigious work history,” the liberal advocacy group People for the American Way drew reporters’ attention to Ricci’s past. Other advocates for Sotomayor have discreetly urged journalists to pursue similar story lines.

Specifically, the advocates have zeroed in on an earlier 1995 lawsuit Ricci filed claiming the city of New Haven discriminated against him because he’s dyslexic. The advocates cite other Hartford Courant stories from the same era recounting how Ricci was fired by a fire department in Middletown, Conn., allegedly, Ricci said at the time, because of safety concerns he raised.

The Middletown-area fire department was subsequently fined for safety violations, but the Connecticut Department of Labor dismissed Ricci’s retaliation complaint.

No People for the American Way officials could be reached Friday to speak on the record about the press campaign.

“To go after so sympathetic a plaintiff as Frank Ricci . . . is a new low in the politics of personal destruction,” said Roger Pilon, the director of the libertarian Cato Institute’s Center for Constitutional Studies. “If they were smart, they’d keep a low profile.” [read more]

All that should matter is that Ricci’s lawsuit was lawful, just, and as a result, victorious. But because his case made Sotomayor look like a racist radical instead of the impartial jurist Americans want on the bench, Democrats have set out to distract from that truth, by smearing a private citizen who dared seek the protection of the law. As if anything about him could change the fact that the only relevance his case has in Sotomayor’s confirmation is her biased bungling of it.

So Democrats shoot the messenger.

Don’t forget these are the same race-hustling Democrats who filibustered the impeccably qualified Miguel Estrada’s confirmation to the circuit court precisely because, “he is Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court appointment”, according to their own memos! They blocked him from even being nominated to SCOTUS because of his race and now they dare try to paint those who oppose Sotomayor because of her activism and demonstrated bias as racists.

There is no such thing as good faith and honesty from the progressive wing of the Democrat party. It simply doesn’t exist. Please, show me where I’m wrong.

UPDATE: Reader Vanessa sent us the following message in email, so if it sounds up your alley, have at it:

I just wanted to let you know the Associated Press is letting readers collaboratively write the best case for & against Sotomayor.  The top rated text will be published at Yahoo! News, so it’s a great way to get the word out. I thought you might spread the word so the case against is as compelling as possible.  Here’s the link.
