Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina disturbed the dignity of President Obama’s extraordinarily partisan campaign health care speech to a joint session of Congress.  The President was explaining “the bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost.”

There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants.  This, too, is false — the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.  And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up — under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.

The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president’s health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants.

Today for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone cold enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.

Here, the administration also concedes that hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants.

Factcheck.org’s confirmation that the House Bill authorizes coverage of “All Abortions” under ObamaCare, is available here.

The reason why so many Conservatives are sympathetic to Joe Wilson’s shout “You Lie!”, a breach of congressional etiquette for which he has apologized to the President, is that somewhere around 150 million voters were shouting the same thing at their television screens.

What seems to be little understood in Washington DC is that a great many ordinary voters have read big chunks of the House Health Care bill, and they don’t like what they have read, as a couple of million peaceful protesters  demonstrated today in the Capitol.

Now that it has been determined that the President was indeed lying, or misstating, or forgetful, or hadn’t read the bill, or was distributing a little snake oil, it might be wise of pompous Democrats to stop insisting the Representative Wilson apologize to Congress.
