John Abraham has panicked. The true believers are pulling together a “Climate Rapid Response Team” from Minnesota to defend the “consensus” on global warming in the scientific community. The American Geophysical Union plans to announce that 700 climate scientists have agreed to speak out as experts on questions about global warming and the role of man-made air pollution. (air-pollution?) Rent-Seekers armed with hockey sticks?
“This group feels strongly that science and politics can’t be divorced and that we need to take bold measures to not only communicate science but also to aggressively engage the denialists and politicians who attack climate science and its scientists,” said Scott Mandia, professor of physical sciences at Suffolk County Community College in New York.
“We are taking the fight to them because we are … tired of taking the hits. The notion that truth will prevail is not working. The truth has been out there for the past two decades, and nothing has changed.”
The effort is a pushback against congressional conservatives who have vowed to kill regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. They have threatened prominent researchers with investigations. (Like demanding that they show their evidence?) Did I just post something about Democrats taking the election results hard, being angry? Some of those indignant climate scientists like mechanical engineering professor Abraham are even prepared to go before what they consider potentially hostile audiences on conservative talk-radio and television shows. This has nothing to do with science and ever so much to do with propaganda to keep the funding coming.
Some are also pulling together a handbook on the human causes of climate change, which they plan to start sending to U.S. high schools as early as this fall. Gotta keep indoctrinating the kids.
In other news, the Chicago Climate Exchange, which was devised to trade in carbon — which was intended make some investors very rich by trading carbon footprints — is quietly shutting down, dying, ending because nobody wants to buy permits to emit carbon. Unreported in the media, apparently not interesting.

In this post-midterm election period, everyone seems to be in a sort of digestive period. Republicans are trying to analyze what they can do, and what they can’t , to welcome their new members, and particularly to reassure and caution their supporters.
The president has the initiative, and the veto. And the president doesn’t seem to grasp the meaning of the election. There is little, if any, self-analysis. What analysis there is concerns his “gift,” his ability to sway opinion, to transform attitudes and endear himself to others with his words. He is quite sure that he just didn’t explain the correctness of his policies. He really wants the economy to recover more quickly and business to start hiring, but it all just takes time, and he didn’t explain that well enough. He didn’t explain fully enough just how his policies were going to help the economy recover.
Democrats are taking it hard. A staffer for a congressional Democrat who came up short on Tuesday said that “a team of about five people stooped b their offices to talk about payroll, benefits, writing a resumé, and so forth, with staffers who are now job hunting. But one of the staffers was described as a ‘counselor’ to help with the emotional aspect of the loss — and a section in the packet each staffer was given dealt with the stages of grief (for instance, Stage One being anger, and so on).
Funny, the pundits are talking about the angry, irrational, hateful conservatives.
