The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction is Not Promising! by The Elephant's Child

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Las Vegas) has appointed Patty Murray, John Kerry and Max Baucus to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction  that is charged with coming up with a plan to curb the deficit.  Sigh.  Patty Murray is one of my two senators. She is expected to co-chair the committee.  She is also the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the 2012 election cycle, which bodes well for the Republicans. She is not considered one of the sharper knives in the drawer, but keeps getting reelected as the “mom in tennis shoes.”

Max Baucus is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee with jurisdiction over entitlement programs, that the committee is expected to examine. He is noted for writing much of the disastrous ObamaCare bill, and appearing before the television camera in an inebriated state.

John Kerry, who appeared before the Democratic Convention, “reporting for duty” and making the most of his brief career in the military, which he subsequently went on to disgrace.

Five former directors of the Congressional Budget Office are concerned that Congress may undermine the deal that raised the U.S. debt ceiling.   They may fail to agree on a plan to curb the deficit and then soften the impact of automatic spending cuts that would kick in to achieve. The cuts are supposed to be automatic, but they can be delayed or overridden if they should prove too painful.  Defense spending would be reduced by 9.1 percent and non-defense by 7.9 percent.  The left is worried about Baucus because he occasionally compromises.

They simply don’t get it. Obama appointed a Debt Commission with great fanfare, and then ignored their every suggestion. They are fixated on their idea that spending — even more stimulus — is needed to create jobs.  The reason the last one didn’t work, they are sure, is because the stimulus wasn’t big enough.

How can anyone trust the progressives on the economy when they consistently show that they just aren’t serious.

Patty Murray is a ‘Party Hack’!! Dumber then a box of rocks. she is also 1 of my US senators, and I’m proud to admit I’ve never voted for her. Patty would love to gut the Defense buget, so don’t expect any compromises on her part.
Mitch McConnell needs to counter Harry’s picks with Ron Johnson from wisconsin, Jim DeMint- south carolina, and John Thune- South Dakota.

This so called ‘Super committee’ is a joke!! Obama will table any recommendations, just like he did with the Bowles/Simpson commission. People are so tired of the empty rhetoric coming from the WH

Patty Murray on any deficit reduction committee is a oxymoron. Here are some of the appropriation committees Patty is on.
Energy
Transportation
Labor
Education
Health and Human services
Here’s a scary thought: With Kent Conrad retiring in 2012. Patty Murray will become the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee for those dirty dems.
