Embarrasing “Resistance” Movements — Solidarity Forever and Other Trite Nonsense. by The Elephant's Child

Have you seen the Proposed List of Demands put out by the “Occupy Wall Street Movement?” It’s not much of a “movement” of course, and the list is just “proposed,” but my goodness, it’s embarrassing. Why would  you put a document out on the internet testifying to your stupendous stupidity?  It is more a document emphasizing the failure of the American public education system. But perhaps I am too unkind.  Here’s a sampling:

  1. Restore the living wage, end free-trade, impose tariffs on all imported goods and raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour.
  2. Universal single-payer healthcare, ban all private insurers.
  3. Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
  4. Free college education.
  5.  End fossil fuel economy, make windmills work
  6. One trillion dollars in infrastructure spending now.
  7. One trillion dollars to plant forests and dump all nuclear plants
  8. Racial and gender equal rights amendment.
  9. Open borders.
  10. Make American elections meet international standards
  11. Forgive all debts— everything.
  12. Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.

I reworded the “demands” for space considerations. I’m afraid that the list tells us way too much about the writer.  He apparently has big credit card debt, student loan debt,  and is unemployed. Read the whole list here. Videos of the small crowd would indicate that the proposed list would probably be acceptable to the” resistance movement.” The media of course is fascinated, they always love this kind of stuff.

We really need to do something about our schools.
