Taking off the Green Glasses Reveals A Phony Wizard. by The Elephant's Child

The Environmental Protection Agency Inspector General has issued a review questioning the procedures on which the EPA’s “Endangered Finding” for greenhouse gases (GHGs) was based.  The Technical Support Document is supposed to meet a standard of scientific rigor, but the EPA didn’t follow the OMB requirements for such assessments.  Some other governmental agencies are questioning the EPA’s regulatory procedures.

The global warming movement is fizzling, not only here, but in Europe as well. European politicians promoting big cutbacks in electricity generation from traditional sources in order to expand solar and wind are facing an increasingly hostile public, and contradictory energy facts.

Scotland’s great alternative governmental energy pan is being challenged as ruinous by Scotland’s business establishment. There has been a major find of shale gas in northwest England, a possible 200 trillion cubic feet of gas, and the U.K. government doesn’t know what to do about it.  It looks like an answer for the 5.5 million households in Britain living in fuel poverty.

France has halted hydraulic fracking largely because they are so heavily invested in nuclear energy. Poland has declared it will veto any attempt by the European Union to control its development of shale gas. Germany, in the wake of the Japanese nuclear accident in the earthquake and tsunami, has decided to shut down its nuclear plants, but that may be just a temporary response to what they believe to be public fears. Germany, too has large shale gas deposits.

The Greens attack hydraulic fracking in the fear that it might pollute water sources, but there is little evidence to support such a fear. Americans have been using fracking for 60 years without incident. Russia, with abundant energy supplies, had hopes of controlling European energy with their pipeline. Shale deposits seem to be widespread and plentiful.  Shale gas is cleaner than coal, easy to turn into electricity, and will create cheaper energy. The public is noticing.

Here at home, at a time when Obama’s energy ventures are going bankrupt right and left at vast expense of taxpayer funds — Nevada Geothermal’s auditors, Deloitte & Touche, have questioned whether the company has the ability to continue as a going concern— and more bankruptcies are sure to come. A bummer for Harry Reid. DOE’s latest batch of loan guarantees will create 283 jobs in the renewable energy sector at $23 million per job.

The American people are beginning to realize that the policies the government has adopted  to address a global warming fad are proving to be enormously expensive for little or no return, and the case that climate change is something to be alarmed about is evaporating.  The promise of green jobs is proving to be another expensive fantasy.  The American people are deeply concerned about unemployment and the economy. Will they connect that concern to the flawed efforts of the administration to promote unworkable green energy?

The times they are a-changing.  Just not in the direction some people hoped.
