“The Obama Administration Is Lying.” Here is Lara Logan’s Courageous Speech. by The Elephant's Child

In a post yesterday on Mitt Romney’s Foreign Policy speech at the Virginia Military Institute, I made a brief mention of CBS 60 Minutes Correspondent Lara Logan’s keynote address last week at the Better Government Association annual luncheon. The Chicago Sun Times called it “a provocative speech” to some 1.100 movers and shakers in government, politics, media and the legal and corporate arenas.

Lara Logan is a stunningly courageous correspondent, going where few reporters go, trying to get the facts where it is exceedingly dangerous to get the facts. She stepped out of the usual “objective journalist role” to tell a story that she believes Americans need to hear. Our government is lying to us, she said. They are downplaying the strength of our enemies in Afghanistan and Pakistan — as a rationale for getting us out of the war. We have been lured into believing that the perils are past, that there is a kinder, gentler Taliban. “You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”

She told a compelling story to a rapt audience in her soft South African accent. The administration is lying and the lie is that America’s military might has tamed the Taliban. It is not so.

As Governor Romney said in his VMI speech “If America doesn’t lead, others will.

Watch the whole thing, then watch it again, and share it with others who care.
