Democrats are losing their grip. First Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed that all the horror stories about ObamaCare were just Republican lies, then the Senate’s Democrat leader announced that Republicans may have helped Russia annex Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula. Huh?
This astonishing accusation came before a Monday test vote on a Russia sanctions and Ukraine aid bill that Republicans blocked before Congress left for a recess two weeks ago. Since, Crimea seceded and Russian lawmakers annexed the territory. Leader Reid said:
It’s impossible to know whether events would have unfolded differently if the United States had responded to Russian aggression with a strong, unified voice.”
The Nevada Democrat said blocking the bill “sent a dangerous message to Russian leaders.”
The problem? Democrats actually blocked the bill, which passed in the Republican-led House.
And back to Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House:
Standing in front of a placard touting “The Affordable Care ct Four Years Later” which portrayed happy-looking satisfied patients, she said “We just couldn’t be prouder” —of the reform that has denied Americans their preferred doctors, health plans, lots of their money, and an ability to travel, and still have care.
A reporter asked if ObamaCare is a “political liability for your party” in an election year. Pelosi said happily:
We’re not running on this, We’re running on what the American people want us to run on, and that is job creation.”
Well, there you go. If you say it, it must be so. The Obama-Pelosi “recovery” has included the longest period since the Great Depression with unemployment at or above 9.0 %, and higher for some segments of the workforce—especially young black men.
During the 65 years from 1949 to the beginning of 2013 — there have been no months with unemployment over 8% except for 26 months during the bitter 1981-82 recession which resulted in ending the historic inflation of the 1970s.
So the Democrats are going to run on job creation? Good luck with that.

It’s all falling apart. Nancy Pelosi insisted that it is not “ObamaCare,” it’s the Affordable Care Act. It’s “Affordable, Affordable, Affordable” — just when a very large percentage of Americans rise up in a multi-million voiced scream: “No it’s Not! It is not affordable!” They really don’t get it. They do not understand what a mess they have made of things through their arrogance and conceit. And the insurance companies are warning that premium costs will double or triple next year.
Insurance is meant to protect you from the unlikely but possible catastrophe. Your house burns down. A tree falls on your car. The simple fact that it is statistically unlikely makes it possible for many people to buy protection from the unlikely event, because it won’t happen to most people. The modest amounts everyone pays for protection produce the funds to give to the poor soul who did have the house fire, and still allow the insurance company to make the profit that allows them to do business and stay in business.
It should work the same way with health insurance. If many people pay in modest amounts for protection from needing brain surgery, there will be enough to pay for the one who does. What the Democrats managed to contrive in their back rooms is sort of a mish-mash of pre-paid health care, where everybody has to pay for their own needs and also the needs of everyone who can’t afford to pay for their own care, and the new bureaucracy to run it. And they claim it will save money, and be better care.
They neglected to include the cost of the vast federal bureaucracy that is to be added on top of the medical bureaucracy and the insurance bureaucracy. The Democrats thought that a lot of young, healthy people who didn’t really need much in the way of health care would than pay enough to cover all those extra expenses of giving everyone not only what they needed but whatever they might want or find convenient.
The young healthy adults who have been uninsured because they don’t want to pay for insurance— because they are healthy—are collectively saying that they have no interest in paying for everybody else. In other words they may be young and naive, but they’re not that stupid. Democrats continue to pretend that ObamaCare is quite wonderful and everybody will love it—eventually, or perhaps they believe that they can just reform it into single-payer without anybody noticing. Which, if Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), which the ObamaCare advisers love, is any example, which it is, kills way too many of its clients.
Other than that, the Democrats say that aside from some “minor glitches” it is all quite wonderful, any claims to the contrary are lies (Harry Reid), and as soon as Obama manages to revise it enough, everyone will love it.

President Obama’s budget for FY 2015 was widely heralded as “dead on arrival.” Spends too much on all the wrong things, and it will never get by the House of Representatives. Fortunately.
But reporters continue to dig into it to try to understand the president’s priorities. We know the major outlines—he’s big on redistribution of wealth, and wants millions to waste on climate restraining efforts.
We’re in the middle of the seventeenth year of a complete lack of observable global warming but the investment in catastrophic climate change is huge, and nobody’s going to give up with or without a fight. How is Obama to reward his supporters if he cant funnel subsidies to them through the guise of saving us from a nonexistent rise in temperatures caused by a benign rise in carbon in the atmosphere. But I digress.
What is noticeable as they dig into the budget is that in the wake of a world in turmoil, where it seems that everywhere passions and anger are rising, the cuts to our national defense are indefensible. Now we learn that the cornerstone of U.S. Naval power is eliminated under the Obama budget. The president is seeking to abolish two highly successful missile programs that experts say have helped the U.S. Navy maintain military superiority for the past several decades. The U.S.Navy has been responsible for keeping the world’s sea lanes open and safe—no small matter.
The Tomahawk missile program—the world’s most advanced cruise missile— is set to be cut by $128 million under the FY budget proposal and completely eliminated by FY 2016, according to budget documents released by the Navy. The Long Range Anti-Ship missile, an experimental anti-ship missile not yet capable of passing basic tests. The number of actual Tomahawk missiles acquired by the United States will drop significantly from 196 last year, to 100 in 2015, and zero in 2016. The stock would be completely depleted by 2018.
The Navy will also be forced to cancel its acquisition of the well-regarded and highly effective Hellfire missiles in 2015.
The proposed elimination of these programs came as a shock to lawmakers and military experts, who warned that cutting these missiles would significantly erode our ability to deter enemy forces.
Seth Cropsey, director of the Hudson Institute’s Center for American Seapower, said “It doesn’t make sense. This really moves the U.S away from a position of influence and military dominance.” If someone were trying to “reduce the U.S. ability to shape events” in the world, “they couldn’t find a better way than depriving the U.S. fleet of Tomahawks. It’s breathtaking.”
While the military is seeing budgets cut dramatically, and equipment scaled back—the Tomahawk cuts seem not to be due to a lack of funds. The administration seems to be taking the millions spent on the Tomahawk program and investing it in an experimental program that experts say will not be battle-ready for at least 10 years.
Putin has on the border of Ukraine 20,000 troops, artillery, and attack helicopters. The Ukrainians asked for weapons, we said no, but offered MREs (meals ready to eat). Putin essentially said Russia was swindled at the end of the Cold War, swindled of its empire, swindled of its colonies and swindled of its own territory and I’m here to get it back. He’s also establishing bases in South America.
China is attempting to make the South China Sea its own private pond. Japan’s Prime Minister Abe is attempting to reform their pacifist constitution, and re-arm. North Korea, Syria, Iraq, Iran. Clearly a time to reduce our power in the world—so we won’t be thought to be a bully.
And the president can’t be bothered to attend National Security meetings?
Its a female Baird’s Tapir, born at the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society. Her name is Luna, a name bestowed by school children. Mom is not as decorative as her daughter, but these Tapirs are an endangered species, so it’s nice to see this new, very cute one.
Their range in the wild is from southern Mexico down through Central America as far as Ecuador. They are mostly solitary and active at night.
