United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team by The Elephant's Child

Halftime of the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns game at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX. The Marines Corps silent drill platoon performs. I had never heard of this group before. They are impressive.

Yes, they are. When I was stationed in DC, and even now when I visit, I liked to go see them drill at 8th & I, the Marine Barracks.

If you are not aware of what the “silent” entails, you’ll notice that they do not call cadence for that entire drill. They practice for HOURS!

All of the branches have them. They use different rifles. Lots of YouTubes.

I didn’t know that either. I’ll have to investigate.

Oh I was certainly aware of the “silent” and the long practice required to be so extraordinarily perfect. You might miss the silent part with so much noise from the crowd. If anyone screwed up it would be hugely noticeable, but of course nobody does. Fun to see. Is this the same platoon that has done the performance for the Marine Corp recruiting commercials in unusual spots like Hoover Dam?

Yes. The Silent Drill unit and “The President’s Own” unit (those are the Marines you sre standing guard at places like the White House) are the ones you saw in those ads.
