American Elephants

Only in The People’s Republic of Seattle by The Elephant's Child

The City of Seattle claims to wish to protect you from the ravages of sugar on your body and well being. They will protect you by discouraging you from purchasing sweetened beverages with a new tax of 1.75 cents per ounce on all sweetened beverages sold in the city. (They do not care about your body fat, your rotting teeth or your potential diabetes. They want the money for their own nefarious purposes) It took effect Monday, on the first  day of the  year.

The prices at an area Costco showed that the tax increases the price of Gatorade by 65 percent and Dr. Pepper by 75 percent. To explain the cost increase, the discount chain posted an explanation of the steep price increase.

I think between Philadelphia and you guys, I could find a lucrative career as a soft drink smuggler!

Thank you, but I live across the great waters of Lake Washington, and do not drink sweetened beverages anyway. If I need sweetening, it’s more for my disposition when confronted with this kind of stupidity. Our governor Inslee is working on a carbon tax because now that Trump got out of the Paris Accords, it’s up to him and to Jerry Brown to save us from global warming.

Just tell your governor that he needs to lead by example… He should hold his breath for at least 9 hours every day. (Tell him if he can do all 9 hours at once, you’ll send flowers (think about it))

I *love* how Costco does that with all the Punishment Taxed items– you’ll look at a bottle of vodka, and it’s $10. Then it will SHOW the $13 worth of taxes, and the final price.
