Americans are getting their backs up. We seem to have entered a new phase where everybody feels entitled to tell us what we may or may not do, and that just doesn’t go over very well. At the moment, it seems to be governors and mayors who are telling us how we may or may not celebrate the holidays with our friends and family, and then promptly totally disregarding those orders on their own part. The act of disregarding their own orders is, of course, pounced on promptly by an alert press, which makes for easily-written pieces that attract a lot of attention.
Covid-19 is, of course, the cause celebrated, whether it is masks, lockdowns, staying home, businesses ruined because they are shut down. Defund the police! Followed promptly by a significant rise in crime, which the “defund the police”crowd simply cannot seem to grasp. Perhaps this is a situation where those who want to defund the police have experience with some very expensive traffic tickets, and no experience with being attacked or being robbed.
Anthony Fauci lost much of his authority and respect when he, who demanded that everyone wear masks, was photographed at a baseball game in the stands with friends, maskless and enjoying the outing. Most of the nation’s governors have been caught up giving orders which they promptly disobey themselves.
Then there’s the mask bit. Entrepreneurs abound. Masks are obviously ugly, and make it feel hard to breathe. Masks are intended to protect other people from you, they do not offer protection from incoming virus. Many have tried to address the ugliness with humor (big funny mouths painted on) trying to make them transparent, or just to make them pretty with flowers or nice color. Nancy Pelosi has ordered in silk scarves to match her chosen dress of the day. There is apparently a new fabric devised by Israeli scientists that does offer protection. Amazon supposedly has them, though they are expensive. Joe Biden has announced that he will require everyone to wear a mask for 100 days.
As I said, Americans are getting their backs up. They take their freedoms quite seriously. Democrats seem to believe that the important people like themselves can decide for themselves, but careful regulation must be applied for the stupid people out there, who are those not inclined to vote for Democrats. I don’t know where this is all going, but it is not a small matter, and should not be ignored.
