Joe Biden’s First Ten Days! by The Elephant's Child

President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain posted a memo to incoming White House Senior Staff about the First Ten Days of the new administration on Twitter.

President-elect Biden is assuming the presidency in a moment of profound crisis for our nation. We face four overlapping and compounding crises; the COVID-19 crisis, the resulting economic crisis, the climate crisis, and a racial equity crisis. All of these crises demand urgent action. In his first ten days in office, President-elect Biden will take decisive action to address these four crises, prevent other urgent and irreversible harms, and restore America’s place in the world.

Donald Trump’s “Warp Speed” has produced three vaccines for the covid crisis. Front-line health-care workers are now being vaccinated so they can take care of any of the rest of us who come down with it, and as soon as that’s done, the rest of us will get it. I have no idea what Biden thinks he can do to “fix” that. Neither, apparently, does Mr. Klain.

There is no climate crisis. As I have noted many times, Christiana Figueres, General Secretary of the IPCC, admitted in a press conference back in 2015, that the object of the “climate crisis” was to rid the world of capitalism. The climate is doing nothing unusual or remarkable. The climate has been far warmer in the past, and far cooler as well. The current, slight warming is nothing to get excited about. The earth is always warming and cooling.

Other nations loathe our capitalist system because it is so successful, making our nation rich and powerful. They are welcome to add it to their own countries, we encourage it, but you do end up with a free people, and they can’t have that.

The “racial equity” crisis is usually laid at the feet of a lack of fathers in the home. 76.3% of the population, according to the 2010 census is white. 13.4% are black, or African-American, 5.9% Asian, 1.5% American Indian or Alaskan native, 18.5% Hispanic or Latino, with 60.1% of those being only white. Those statistics account for a lot of the talk about “white supremacy”. Jason Riley, who is black, and writes for the Wall Street Journal editorial page, has an excellent book out titled “Please Stop Helping Us.” Treating one racial group as one that constantly needs government help to survive is not really helping them to succeed.

To sum up, this is not a moment of profound crisis. Mr. Biden’s “good intentions” are misplaced. Clearly his “good intentions” add up to many trillions of dollars of cost for the taxpayers, and somebody there is a little light in the economics department. You can’t add on constant increases in national debt and have a humming economy and nothing suggested here will improve it.
