A few of the cargo ships waiting offshore for entry to the Port of Los Angeles to hopefully unload.
Presidential Press Secretary and budding economist Jen Psaki said that we don’t need to worry about inflation, because it just proves that people are buying lots of goods which shows that the economy is doing well, and anyway, that will all be gone next year, because all the economists say so.
Anchor Jake Tapper on CNN’s “the Lead” said “Inflation is skyrocketing as I don’t need to tell you. The prices for home heating costs, cars, groceries, furniture, rent gasoline are hitting Americans right in the wallet. The White House response has been generally to say, :Hey, inflation shows we;re coming out of the recession. It’s a good sign.
“President Biden’s chief of staff Ron Klain enthusiastically retreated an economist who said in part ‘Most of the economic problems, inflation, supply chains, et-cetera, are high-class problems.’ Now I get the larger point that when we’re talking about economics, we’re coming out of recession. But doesn’t it seem tone-deaf to say that rising prices and empty grocery store shelves are high-class problems? Isn’t that a bit dismissive?”
The White House is citing the need to “Diversify Fuel Sources” in response to the (non-existent) climate crisis. But then Joe Biden is going over to consult the Pope about the climate crisis, so that will surely clear up any concerns about the climate.
The job of Press Secretary to a President of the United States is a tough job, and sure to give one a fine position in the media when their president’s term is over. But is does call for a voluminous knowledge of history and economics and law, and a little of everything else.
