Does It Make It Alright If Somebody Else Did It? by The Elephant's Child

I’m wondering to what extent ‘suggestibility’ plays a part in events. Does someone driving a vehicle at high speed through a crowd, killing all sorts of innocents suggest to other so-inclined nutcases that it can be copied? Or that it is permissible because someone else has done it? We seem to have had looters invading Nordstrom stores and making off with the merchandise, and Louis Vuitton stores as well.

Store clerks are not exactly prepared to cope. It has spread from one city to another, apparently because someone got away with it? I don’t pretend to understand the motivations. But Nordstrom has nice stores and the merchandise is top quality, so if someone succeeds in just walking in and helping themselves, lots of others are going to do it too? Did mothers not teach their children to be law-abiding citizens, but to take advantage of whatever comes along?
