Did You Ever Read a Story About Cow Spies? by The Elephant's Child

I imagine that you look through several news sites when you first sit down at the computer, intending to get a scan of sorts into what has happened since you last sat down at the computer. I immediately ran into what is certainly my favorite news of the day. Never mind the battle for the office of Speaker of the House.

The Palestinians have accused the Israelis of training their cows to spy on them.

How could you possibly beat that one! It kind of puts the daily news of the world into a slightly different category. I’m not sure just what the category is, but it’s clearly a new one!

I think there used to be, a long time ago, a radio program titled “Can You Top This?” if I remember correctly, which I may not. This fits right in! Cow Spies! Wonderful! Easily misread as cow pies, which is an entirely different story, with which I used to be, a long time ago, very familiar.

We had a very large and very perfect front lawn, beautifully green. Range cattle were deeply attracted and of course infuriated my dad, when they arrived at ungodly hours to graze on the beautifully green lawn. We could drive them back to the open range, but you don’t get to shoot the neighbors’ cattle.

We’d drive them back to the range where they belonged, but our green lawns were much preferable to the cattle. It was an ongoing battle. You can see why the story about the Israeli’s cow spies attracted me.

A Windy Night Last Night! by The Elephant's Child

I have mentioned that I live on the side of an east-facing hill. The entrance to the house is a driveway and walk to the front door from a fairly steep street. There are steps up to a higher level in the yard, from the front door to the mailbox across the street. The steps up acquired, during the night, a huge fir-tree branch, probably 14 feet long and 4″ thick at least. Will take a bit of sawing before we can put it out for the garbage man next week. There is a price for living on a pretty east-facing wooded lot! Lucky it didn’t all hit the roof!

Lots of neighbors will be spending today cleaning up after the windy night. Bet there were some toppled trees.
