Where did all the confusion come from? Celebrating Mother’s Day, which I always assumed was a sort of ad campaign from America’s restaurant association to get everyone to be forced to take their mom’s out to dinner or buy her splendid gifts It is has become a very big and very essential deal. Biggest restaurant day of the year, they say. We go through weeks of preparation, Stores advertise their special motherly gifts, stock up on what usually seem to be popular gifts for moms in general. Obviously if you cannot do something spectacular for your mom, you are a horrid failure.
Retailers have worked hard at trying to make “Father’s Day” another holiday of equal significance, but I’d be willing to bet that most men cannot even tell you when “Father’s Day” is. Not meant as any insult to Fathers, who are obviously part of the deal in creating a new member of the human race, But the whole deal does give us a glimpse into how the retail industry tries to promote business, and how very well it actually works!
