Happy Valentines Day!
Being of the male of the species, I’ve never much understood the importance some place on the holiday. Let’s face it, Valentines Day is nothing more than a concoction of the greeting-card industry to promote the sales of schmaltzy valentines. And as a holiday, its kind or a rip-off — if even the most perfectly executed Valentine’s Day gesture doesn’t excuse one from being romantic the rest of the year, then, really, what’s the point?
That said, I should point out that Elephants are known to be very partial to chocolate truffles.

This song has been stuck in my head since I heard the news. What a beautiful voice. She will be missed!
Page died on New Year’s Day in Encinitas, Calif., according to publicist Schatzi Hageman, ending one of pop music’s most diverse careers. She was 85 and just five weeks away from being honored at the Grammy Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Recording Academy.
Page achieved several career milestones in American pop culture, but she’ll be remembered for indelible hits that crossed the artificial categorizations of music and remained atop the charts for months to reach a truly national audience. [read more...]

Just in time for Christmas, and exclusively available from American Elephants, the original, official, iconic, 1980 “Reagan for President” primary-election campaign logo, AND the official, 1980 “The Time is Now. Reagan & Bush” general-election campaign logo t-shirts. (Coming very soon in buttons, bumper stickers and other items. So check back soon!)
Classic, iconic, historical gifts ANY Reagan fan would love to receive!
These official 1980 campaign logos are not available anywhere else! …I checked! I wanted them for myself because they’re a better design than the 1984 campaign logo, they don’t include the year (so they’re timeless) and they’re from the campaign that started it all! …so I reproduced them myself.
Be a part of history! Be a part of the 1980 campaign that launched the Reagan Revolution — the longest period of peace and prosperity in American history. Show your support for the greatest president of the 20th century! Especially now — especially as Obama and the Democrats are doing everything in their power to dismantle all the real progress Reagan made!
And while you’re at our shop, be sure to check out our other designs too!
We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Don’t sit on the beach and watch the wave, BE the wave! Turn our edge into a tsunami!
VOTE! This election is all about getting out the vote. Help do it. Call up Republicans you know, or Republican-leaning independents, and say, “hey, let’s go vote together!”. Particularly if you suspect they might skip going to the polls for any reason. Call up ALL your Republican and Independent friends and ask them if they’ve voted. If they haven’t, offer to drive them to the polls. Or better yet, get in your car and go pick them up. Drag them by the hair if necessary.
Don’t wear anything that could be remotely deemed political to the polls. One woman was turned away from the polls because she was wearing a shirt that said, “Vote the Bible.” Democrat poll watchers will be on hand trying every trick in the book to keep Republicans from casting ballots.
Have your camera phone or cameras with you when you go to the polls. Record any shenanigans you may see, report them to the poll-watchers, AND to True the Vote’s National Election Integrity Hotline at 1-855-444-6100. I thoroughly expect a vast increase in Democrat voter intimidation, fraud, and electioneering tactics. Be ready to record it; you have the right. If you see something illegal or suspect, and no one present will stop it, call the police.
And vote Republican in ALL Senate races. We must take majority control of the Senate if we are to overturn Obamacare! Indeed, vote a straight Republican ticket. This is a transformational election, our country is dangerously close to that tipping point Benjamin Franklin warned us would herald the end of the Republic. We must not only take back control, we must reverse course.
And pray! Mitt Romney must win this election if we are to maintain our Constitutional Republic. God listens!
I think we are going to win tomorrow, and I think we are going to win big, but take nothing for granted. Every vote truly DOES count. So, BE THE WAVE!
Then we’ll celebrate!

Dozens of robins are in the midst of a three-day, fermented-berry-bender in my yard. They spend the whole day eating berries, getting plastered, cackling, flying about drunkenly, smashing into windows and pooping on everything in sight. It’s quite amusing.
The trees are mountain ashes. There are two at my house. The picture undoubtedly comes from a gardening book because it is quite perfect. Mine are scraggly and yellowed, having dropped half their leaves, partly because it is October, but more because the berries have now reached a stage of desirable fermentation. The robins are having a blast.
I’ve no idea why robins are such notable alcoholics, there are lots of other kinds of birds here who don’t seem to succumb, but these birds are partying like they’re out to prove something.
I’ve been told that the robins in the Bay Area go after Pyracantha berries, also red, as well, get stinking drunk and poop all over everybody’s cars. Lots of Pyracantha in California. The people who plant them have no idea what they’re getting into!

For those of us addicted to the gripping British period soap-opera, Downton Abbey, the seasons are always too short, and the wait between is always much too long. But now we at least know how long the wait will be. The third season will broadcast in the United States starting next January. (Ugh!) This trailer comes from the UK, where it begins next month. (Hmm, perhaps a subscription to Hidemyass is in order):
Shirley MacLaine makes her Downtown Abbey debut as the Countess of Grantham Cora Crawley’s American mother—a role to rival Maggie Smith’s beloved Dowager Countess (“She’ll bring enough drama of her own”)—arriving when the Earl of Grantham learns the estate is broke. This, of course, doesn’t make for wedded bliss between the newly engaged Mary Crawley and Matthew, and the look on his face when Mary wonders, “if we could disagree over something as fundamental as this then shouldn’t we be brave and back away now?” says it all. Other points of note: Branson’s back, Bates is still in prison, and there are no signs of the two younger Crawley siblings or the servant staff. [click image to watch]
