Andrew Klavan Explains Hollywood by The Elephant's Child

This video was made last year, but the ideas are perhaps even more relevant today, in the age of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Republicans try to inform people by explaining the laws of economics and the lessons of history, discussing the pros and cons of proposed legislation. They believe that some people are in real need and try to arrange that they can be helped, but for those who are able, they believe that a paycheck is better than a handout.

Democrats, on the other hand, believe in buying votes with handouts and promises of free education and free healthcare. I always remember the young black woman at Obama’s inauguration who was so excited that now she wouldn’t have to worry about paying her bills, because of Obama. Democrats are very good at propaganda. They don’t worry much about economics, but promise to relieve the worries of life with the good things they will vote for. That they seldom work out is just the way things go and never mind.

Of course movies are powerful propaganda. Think about the extent to which people quote lines from a popular movie in ordinary conversation. Why is the news, on any day filled with comments from celebrities in the entertainment industry. They are celebrities because we have seen them in movies or on TV. We recognize them, know their names and are fascinated by gossip about them. Yet do they have any qualifications for assuming that their thoughts and ideas will be of value?

If celebrities were banned from the news, the news would be about real events and real problems, and much, much shorter. Is your view of the world  clearer and better understood because Bill Mayer said he hopes for another recession so we can get rid of Trump? But that is what passes for news today, and people are upset when President Trump says something about “fake news.”

These Are Completely Different Jews We Are Talking About Killing Here by The Elephant's Child

Former Governor Mike Huckabee was recently discussing President Obama’s Iran Deal with Breitbart editor-in-chief Alexander Marlow. Mr. Huckabee said “This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the ovens.”

When the corrupt media considered this it instantly became clear that every Republican will be required to respond to it. When a Democrat, like Hillary Clinton, is going to appear on “Meet the Press”, a venue where she might say something untoward, the Media feeds her the questions to be asked in advance, so she can prepare —as has been revealed by the latest dump of Hillary’s emails.

Andrew Klavan, a Republican, presumed that he would be asked for his response to the Huckabee remark: Here it is.

I am absolutely shocked that Governor Huckabee would make reference to the Holocaust when discussing a deal that endangers the lives of six million Jews. Why, it’s so absurd — Jon Stewart ought to make one of his funny faces about it. God, I love those. Are they hilarious or what? Just because the president wants to virtually guarantee nuclear weapons to a regime dedicated to Israel’s destruction, that’s no reason to go around getting all Holocausty about it. It’s a completely ridiculous comparison. For one thing, these are totally different Jews we’re talking about killing here. And for another thing, Adolf Hitler was evil. President Obama is just narcissistic and morally obtuse. So when these Jews die, it’ll be different. Okay, not for them, but I mean for us, later, when we make excuses about it. Governor Huckabee should apologize at once. Especially for those music segments on his old Fox show.

That strikes me as a pretty fair response to Progressive outrage.

A Conservative Guide to Liberal Thought: by The Elephant's Child

The common conservative response to a liberal pronouncement is “You’ve got to be kidding!” Can they possibly believe what they are saying? The real divisions between liberals and conservatives are deep and wide, but Andrew Klavan takes a shot at explaining what it is that liberals believe, and how liberals think. It may be helpful, but —It’s not pretty!

The Extremists Are Coming, The Extremists Are Coming! by The Elephant's Child

This video from Andrew Klavan on the Culture is a couple of years old, which just goes to show you that nothing much changes.  Nancy Pelosi is not Speaker any more,  but nothing else is all that different.

The more things change, the more they stay the same, or something like that.
