A new report shows that one out of every four overseas military ballots goes uncounted:
It said that of 441,000 absentee ballots requested by eligible voters living abroad – mainly active-duty and reserve troops – more than 98,000 were “lost” ballots that were mailed out but never received by election officials. Taking into account 13,500 ballots that were rejected for such reasons as a missing signature or failure to notarize, one-quarter of those requesting a ballot were disenfranchised.
The study found that an additional 11,000 ballots were returned as undeliverable. [more]
But never fear! The same Democrats that regularly work to prevent military ballots from being counted are all over it!
Sen. Charles Schumer, chairman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, said the study, while providing only a snapshot of voting patterns, “is enough to show that the balloting process for service members is clearly in need of an overhaul.”
By this time next year, with hard work, the Schmuckster hopes Democrats can disenfranchise at least 85% of all military ballots!
Lord help us!

Months before his election, Mr. Obama apparently started to cultivate improved relations with the mullahs of Iran. A senior campaign adviser, former Clinton administration Defense Secretary William Perry met repeatedly with a representative of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. (The Holocaust-denying, genocide supporting “gentleman”).
According to Frank Gafney Jr., president of the Center for Security Policy, Obama’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke has hired as a senior adviser Professor Vali Reza Nasr — an Iranian expatriate with a record of shilling for the Islamic Revolutionary Iranian regime.
According to GeostrategyDirect.com, a newsletter published by The Washington Times national security reporter Bill Gertz:
“Diplomatic sources said that Barack Obama has engaged several Arab intermediaries to relay messages to and from as Qaeda in the months before his election as the 44th U.S. President. The sources said al Qaeda has offered what they termed a truce in exchange for a U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan. ‘For the last few months, Obama has been receiving and sending feelers to those close to al Qaeda on whether the group would end its terrorist campaign against the United States,’ a diplomatic source said. ‘Obama sees this as helpful to his plans to essentially withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq during his first term in office.'”
President Obama’s first post-inaugural interview was with Al Arabiya, a Saudi-owned network. He said he was determined to “restore” the “same respect and partnership America had with the Muslim world as recently as 20 or 30 years ago.”
Shades of the Dixie Chicks. Charles Krauthammer pointed out that over the past 20 years:
America did not just respect Muslims, it bled for them. … It is both false and injurious to this country to draw a historical line dividing America under Obama from a benighted past when Islam was supposedly disrespected and demonized.
It’s unclear just what President Obama hopes to accomplish with his ‘good intentions.’ Islamists are not alone in interpreting it as weakness.

The Wall Street Journal today took a look at the claim that Sarah Palin’s qualifications to be Vice President are poor because she governs one of the least populated states, with a meager budget of “only” $12 billion and 16,000 full-time state employees. But it turns out that the Governor’s office in Alaska is one of the nation’s most powerful.
For more than two decades Thad Beyle, a political scientist at the University of North Carolina, has maintained an index of “institutional powers” in state offices. He rates governorships on potential length of service, budgetary and appointment authority, veto power and other factors. Mr. Beyle’s findings for 2008 rate Alaska at 4.1 on a scale of 5. The national average is 3.5.
Only four other states — Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia — concentrate as much power in the Governor’s office as Alaska does, and only one state (Massachusetts) concentrates more. California may be the nation’s most populous state, but its Governor rates as below-average (3.2) in executive authority. This may account in part for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s poor legislative track record. The lowest rating goes to Vermont (2.5) where the Governor (remember Howard Dean) is a figurehead compared to Mrs. Palin.
The Alaskan governor has line-item veto power over the budget and can only be overridden by a three-quarters majority in the Legislature. Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, elected in 1992, had a state budget of $2 billion which was among the smallest in the country. Sarah Palin not only governs a lot of territory, but is an important executive.
The Obama people keep digging, and we will have to keep debunking.

Voters are curious about “community organizing”. Barack Obama has made quite a point of his earlier career in community organizing, but most people have no idea what an organizer actually organizes.
Iowa Hawk, a brilliant satirist, sums it up:
What do community organizers do? As you know, Americans today are struggling with problems. These problems include rising unemployment, energy cost, alienation, animosity, corporations and increased death. Like no other time in our history, Americans are staring into an abyss of a hellhole of helplessness. And this is where community organizers like me come in and provide solutions. Specifically, America’s community organizers:
•reach out and work with comunities in various ways.
•liason with, and for, comunity agencies for service within affected areas.
•fight to make a difference.
•raise awareness.
•deal with community issues.
•when necessary, refer inquiries to outreach coordinators.
•help coordination agency administrators identify and address outreach opportunities.
•model timetables and conceptualize benchmarks.
•issue guidelines for poster contests and interpretive dance festivals.
•gather voter registrations, win valuable prizes.

This is exciting! Sarah Palin is a wonderful choice. Strong, feisty, capable, tough, a reformer. And above all, she’s real. So many Washington politicians are patted and groomed into what they believe will appeal to this group or that. Wardrobe consultants, make up consultants, soon it is hard to discern the person beneath the packaging.
We have been trying for months to find out who Barack Obama is, and what he stands for. His disturbing acceptance speech last night gave us no clue. Is he completely unaware of what has transpired over the past few years, or was he merely trying to feed his followers enough red meat to satisfy their bloodlust? It was a mean speech, full of attacks on George Bush who, of course, is to blame for everything — but who is not running again. I suppose if you have a huge stadium full of people for whom high humor is putting a Hitler moustache on President Bush, accuracy doesn’t matter much.
The more I find out about Sarah Palin, the better this choice seems. She has not been Governor for a long time, but she has accomplished an amazing amount of important things. I can’t wait to see her out there on the campaign trail.

Obama’s world tour is becoming a little embarrassing. The candidate— not yet the nominee — is doing his commander-in-chief imitation, and loftily informing everyone how things will change as soon as he is anointed elected. Since he knows so little about the Middle East, one would think that he would approach generals, prime-ministers and commanders with a degree of humility, but that is not to be.
Foreign Policy 101: It is better to listen to experts than to expert to the experts.
The Democrat position on the War in Iraq evolved, not immediately after they voted for it, but after the successful invasion. It started to look like President Bush might have a winning war on his hands. A successful George W. Bush could not to be allowed. There was an election coming in 2004, and defeating Bush was far more important than what was best for our military or our country.
Democrats have been loud in their insistence that the “war” was only properly in Afghanistan and only properly in search of Osama bin Laden. Gone was any consideration of the Long War against Islamic Terrorism. Right down the memory hole. Historian Arthur Herman has a wonderful article reminding us all of the real facts on the ground.
Something Obama has apparently never done is to study a map of the Middle East. Looking closely at the centrality of Iraq and the states that border Iraq is important, and informative.
In the clip above, Obama, fully into his commander-in-chief mode, is making pronouncements that he, as a very junior senator, has no business making. He manages to claim “his job as commander-in-chief”, sneer at President Bush who “says” he is deferring to the commanders on the ground, and pretends to have better judgment than all of the above. And because he has better judgment, he deserves all the credit, or something like that.

Obama’s sole claim to “good judgment” and the very basis of his candidacy is his original opposition to the war as a junior back bencher in the Illinois state legislature. Without any access to the facts that the President, his Cabinet and the Congress had, Obama signed on with the anti-war left and the netroots.
The facts about his judgment seem to indicate otherwise. He doesn’t change his mind as he alters his position. He remains absolutely correct.
And that is the real problem.

Oh dear. The Democrat Disinformation Department had another meeting, and apparently sent out a memo. A specific word has been injected into the campaign chatter.
Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot at National Review Online spotted an interesting pattern:
Barack Obama, appearing on Larry King Live : “Where Senator McCain I think is confused is the difference between tactics and strategy.”
Joe Biden, the same day on a campaign conference call” “As a consequence of their profound confusion [Bush and McCain] make profound mistakes.”
The liberal blog The Carpetbagger Report uses the word “confused” in almost every post about McCain.
Think Progress does exactly the same.
AmericaBlog uses the words “McCain and confused” together 108 times.
Obama surrogate John Kerry, on a conference call on June 11; “McCain confuses who Iran is training, he confuses what the makeup of al Qaeda is, he confuses the history going back to 68 of what has happened to Sunni and Shia”, Kerry said.
On the same call, Obama adviser Susan Rice cited a “pattern of confusing the basic facts and reality that pertain to Iraq.”
If you remember, Wesley Clark embarrassed everyone by sneering at John McCain’s military service. W.Va. Senator John D. Rockefeller IV said that McCain was a fighter pilot who fired missiles and didn’t care where they landed or who they hit. Obama surrogate Rand Beers said that since McCain was in prison camp he didn’t really know anything about the Vietnam War, Ed Schultz called McCain a “warmonger”. Tom Harkin claimed that McCain’s coming from a military culture was dangerous, and that McCain had a hard time thinking beyond that. After public response, they had to drop that avenue of attack.
This all seems to belong to the “throw it up against the wall and see what sticks” method of campaigning. Try anything, and if it doesn’t work drop it down the memory hole.
The “confused” theme seems a particularly tacky approach. Obama has neither the character nor the experience to be attacking his opponent on that basis.
John McCain’s own story of what it was like to be a POW in North Vietnam, published in U.S. News in 1973 is available here in 9 parts, and is well worth reading in this election year.
John McCain has never claimed that his military service alone qualified him to run for the presidency. It does, however, give great credence to his character. But as John Hawkins of Right Wing News said:”If the willingness to fight for your country, put your life on the line and suffer the brutality that John McCain suffered as a POW doesn’t make the cut as far as qualifications go, how far below that does a “community organizer” show up on the list of non-qualifications?”

House Democrats have called for the nationalization of oil refineries.
Be afraid. Be very afraid. Maxine Waters is not alone — not that I ever thought she was. While lambasting and demonizing oil executives in committee a few weeks back, the Democrat congresswoman from Los Angeles accidentally let slip that she wants to seize control of the oil industry. It was frightening enough when she was a lone voice.
Today, House Democrats responded to President Bush’s call to increase American energy supply, by openly calling for the government seizure of the refining industry:
“We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market,” said Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling.
This move comes on the heels of a poll revealing a plurality of Democrat voters, like Maxine Waters, support government seizure of the entire oil industry.
The survey found that a plurality of Democrats (37%) believe the oil industry should be nationalized. Just 32% of voters in Barack Obama’s party disagree with that approach. Republicans oppose nationalizing the oil industry by a 66% to 16% margin. Unaffiliated voters are opposed by a 47% to 33% margin…[read more]
All because they don’t understand the basic laws of supply and demand, and in the name of environmentalism. As President Václav Klaus of the Czech Republic, a former soviet satelite, has warned, when your goal is “saving the world,” there really is nothing you can’t justify.
Environmentalism truly is the new communism.
