Everything You Wanted to Know About Peaceful Protests by The Elephant's Child

Peaceful protests! peaceful protests! peaceful protests!: If you wondered why the violence you are seeing online in Portland particularly, and in Seattle, the boarded up small businesses with the broken windows, the graffiti emblazoned on statues and buildings, walls and streets is somewhat inaccurately described as “peaceful protests” it’s really quite simple. The First Amendment reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As long as they can keep the protests “peaceful”, the Feds are disrupting them illegally, and can be blamed with all the insults and vile language, legitimately.

That’s why Attorney General William Barr was called before Congress to testify today before Jerry Nadler’s House Judiciary Committee. Mr. Barr is not a pushover just because he’s been asked to testify, and made mincemeat of several questioners. There are many videos of the committee testimony available.

And here’s the video that Congressman Nadler did not want the committee or the newspeople to see:

More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Russian Collusion by The Elephant's Child

Nunes

The Daily Caller has reported that a”group of wealthy donors from New York and California have forked out $50 million to fund a Russia investigation being conducted by Christopher Steele, Fusion GPS and a former Senate staffer for Dianne Feinstein.”

This interesting little tidbit is made in a footnote to the House Intelligence Committee’s newly released report on Russian interference in the presidential campaign. Fusion GPS hired Steele, a former MI6 agent to investigate Trump’s activities in Russia. He would end up producing a 35-page report alleging collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

The Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee funded the project. A law firm representing the two organizations hired Fusion GPS in April 2016. The dossier project failed to help Hillary, the former Secretary of State, to win the presidency, Fusion GPS and Steele have continued to investigate, according to a former Feinstein staffer named Daniel Jones who now runs a Washington D.C. consulting firm, PQG. The House report states that in March 2017, Jones told the FBI about a PQG project he is working on with Steele and Fusion GPS that is being funded with $50 million from 7 to 10 wealthy donors from New York and California.

Also from The Daily Caller: Chuck Ross reports that the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Friday released a heavily redacted 253-page report laying out the findings of its 14-month investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. The report came from committee Republicans and was approved for release on a party-line vote.

The report asserts that the investigation “found no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded, coordinated, or conspired with the Russian government.” The report notes that “the investigation found poor judgment and ill-considered actions by the Trump and Clinton campaigns.” It singles out Trump associates’ contacts with Russian nationals and groups like Wikileaks during the campaign.

The Committee also released a 99-page rebuttal written by Democrats upset with the Republican members handling of the investigation. Democrats, led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), claim that Republicans failed to interview relevant witnesses or issue subpoenas that might uncover evidence of Trump campaign collusion. The committee, chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, (R-CA) conducted 73 witness interviews for the investigation and reviewed 308,000 documents. But who knows what one more witness and one more document might turn up. The investigation started in January of 2017, and looked at four main areas: Russian active measures; intelligence related to any links between Russian operatives  and political campaigns; the U.S. government’s response to Russia’s attempts to get into the political system; and leaks of classified information from the intelligence community.

A Panicky Pelosi Claims Conspiracy and Distortion. by The Elephant's Child

We await the release of the Memo from the House Intelligence Committee. It is a four page document supposedly referring to the use of the Fusion GPS misinformation to obtain FISA Court permission to surveil and/or wiretap the Trump Campaign, and/or to unmask names. In other words nobody really seems to have a clue.  But—Democrats are having a near nervous breakdown attempting to prevent the release, or make sure that everyone understands that it is inaccurate, false, misleading or something like that, which would seem to indicate that they are scared to death of the reaction.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wrote to Speaker Paul Ryan demanding that he remove Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) as chairman of the Intelligence Committee for releasing the “bogus memo that has taken the GOP ‘s cover-up campaign to a new, completely unacceptable extreme.”

Both the DOJ and FBI oppose releasing the Nunes memo. As the Department of Justice warned, the public release of the memo would be an “unprecedented action” and “extraordinarily reckless.” The FBI also expressed that the agency has “grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”

It has now come to our attention that Congressman Nunes deliberately and materially altered the contents of the memo since it was voted on by the House Republicans. This action is not only dangerous, it is illegitimate, and violates House rules.

The committee says they cleaned up the punctuation and some spelling, or something like that. Democrats attempt to discredit Chairman Nunes in advance of the release does seem to be a little bit much. An MSNBC analyst asked two Democrat lawmakers if Chairman Nunes was “compromised by the Russians” or a “Russian agent.”

Here’s Andrew McCarthy’s post today, in which he says the FBI and Democrats don’t have good reasons for wanting to prevent it’s disclosure to the public.Andy, as a former Federal Prosecutor, has been clear and informative on this whole process.

Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, I believe, suggests that the Obama administration was wiretapping and investigating illegally, the Trump Campaign, which they thought was safe because Hillary would win, and now they are having to go back and do a cover-up after the fact, a kind of interference in an election that would be one of the worst scandals in American history.

All rumor, innuendo, guesswork and suspicion, but it’s getting really interesting. Nancy Pelosi is doing a great job of stirring up interest with her panicky accusation of conspiracy theories and attacks on Committee members.
