Joe Biden is still a new president for many of us, and we are still trying to learn just what he has in mind and what he plans to accomplish. It is, of course, clear that the Democratic Party wants to fully control the American government, but so do the Republicans, that’s how our government is currently set up. We have other parties off and on, but they have not caught on.

Democrat’s passionate demand to be in control has been very much in evidence during the past four years. They have used every trick or lie or falsehood to demonize the recent Republican president. Every day of Trump’s four years he was under one attack or another from Hillary’s pretend Communist influence to the recent “impeachment.” They cannot stand to have a Republican in charge. And apparently they are completely unaware of all that Trump accomplished for the American people. That mindset has carried over to Joe Biden, who is trying his best to eliminate every trace of the previous four Trump years, and he’s still working hard at it. Many of his efforts are absurd, and clearly just an effort to remove anything Trump, in case some mentally disturbed citizens should actually approve of the despised past president.

President Biden has clearly emphasized his desire to open the borders to as many migrants as want to come to America. He has halted all construction on the border wall, pretty much shut down ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), made them release the prisoners they had for deportation (usually because they had committed serious crimes). He is releasing hundreds of Illegal Aliens into American towns, untested for Coronavirus, untested for past criminality. Presumably into selected towns where the newcomers will influence the vote numbers, or the census allotment of members of Congress. Democrats think that way.

You remember, I’m sure, the outcry about “kids in cages” when President Trump kept the children accompanying migrants who seemed to be unrelated to the kids who accompanied them, to keep them safe. Well, never mind. It’s no longer “kids in cages” they are now in “shelters” or “migrant facilities at the border”, subtle changes in language by the Washington Post and CBS that are meant to influence your mind into a different direction.

The border with Mexico is not a nice place. If you follow the news of the border, they keep finding mass graves of opposing groups on the Mexican side. These are not peaceful communities, there are drug cartels trying to ship drugs into the United States, and they dig tunnels and use every means of getting their goods across the border. There are immense profits available in the drug trade, and in many cases their compatriots are already in this country. The Border Patrol and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) have a difficult and dangerous job. President Biden is trying to open the borders and eliminate ICE, in the assumption that more illegal immigrants will become Democrat voters.

The Democrats urge to be in complete control of the government is insatiable. The real interests of the American people for a better economy, fewer problems with drugs, more jobs, fewer homeless, less crime, are not really a matter of concern for them. If they were, they would have had some appreciation for President Trump’s accomplishments. Instead it was a battle for four years starting with Hillary’s phony claims of Russian influence and culminating in a phony impeachment for a capitol invasion that he neither caused nor advocated.

Our current level of immigration is roughly about 1 million a year. In the midst of a devastating pandemic, an economic slowdown then the Biden administration made a big show of proposing sweeping legislation that would legalize almost all illegal aliens. enact measures that would weaken immigration enforcement and increase legal immigration to new levels. Congressional staff received a 59 page section be section summary of the bill. The White House made it clear that it’s top priority is amnesty for illegal aliens. Why?

The bill, however has not yet been introduced in Congress, and may never be. In an evenly divided Congress, it has no chance of of passage. It was proposed on the president’s first day in office to satisfy a campaign pledge and as a gesture of solidarity with the party’s most radical anti-borders activists. The administration and congressional Democrats confessed that a series of smaller measures is more likely. But the “downsized” amnesties are not small. They would give legal status to three to five million illegal aliens, more than were amnestied by the 1986 law that was supposed to be a one-time measure.

I’m inclined to support plain old legal immigration. You want to come to America and become an American, so you apply formally at a consulate, wait your turn, and come legally. Take the courses in citizenship, and in time get sworn in and welcomed as new citizens. There are “temporary” or repeatedly renewed statuses granted to people already here illegally when some sort of natural or man-made disaster strikes their home countries.

Biden has also lifted the so-called “Muslim ban” which was a qualified prohibition on issuing visas to citizens of countries whose governments are unable or unwilling to provide us with the information to allow the visa applicants to be vetted. We will probably see a lot more executive action in that line. I fail to understand the need for it, nor the reason why they regard it as a good thing.

The photo is of the westernmost edge of the border between Tijuana and San Diego. Apparently most illegal aliens did not enter through the Southern border. I guess, overstayed visas, overstayed work permits, overstayed visitors permits. Our tech industry has a lot of temporary workers.

If you are curious about immigration, go to CIS.org, the Center for Immigration Studies, a think-tank dedicated to all matters about immigration, and an excellent source for good information.

Addendum: President Joe Biden in an interview with Univision on Friday, stated that “he hopes and expects the migrant facility in Texas that was used during the Trump administration”won’t stay open very long,” and that what his administration is doing is “much different” from kids in cages because there are people helping the children. Our hope and expectation is that they won’t stay open very long, and that we’ll be able to provide for every kid who comes across the border safely to be housed in a facility that is licensed. And what we’re trying to do, and we have literally hundreds of people doing it now, connect them with families in this country, get them the families that they came to see or they are looking for, and we;v e already connected thousands of them that way. And so, that’s what — that our hope, is to unite these children with families while they wait to have a hearing.” He also added that what he’s doing is “much different” from ids in cages because “we have people there helping them.” Oh, like the people who took the kids to parks and playgrounds under the Trump administration? Now the illegals coming across the border will get free taxi rides to wherever they want to go, courtesy of the taxpayers. That will solve the border crisis.

The Electoral College Has Voted. Joe Biden is Officially President-Elect. by The Elephant's Child

The electoral college has voted in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to make fomer Vice President Joe Biden now formally the president-elect of the United States. Unfortunately 75-76% of Republicans believe the election was stolen from Donald Trump, and around 30% of Democrats also believe the election was stolen. That doesn’t seem to be getting off to a real good start.

One of Biden’s very first efforts will be to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords, with John Kerry in charge, to save us from an overheating planet. It wouldn’t take a lot of time and effort to learn that it has been much warmer in the past, with little in the way of ill-effects. But true-believers don’t investigate, they just believe.

The open borders lobby is urging Democrat Joe Biden to quickly grant amnesty for illegal aliens who are living in the United States, as there is a little-known federal program that keeps foreign nationals from being deported. They want amnesty by executive order and use the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to grant amnesty to all 11 million to 22 million illegals currently living in the United States. I have the odd notion that there is a legal way to come to the United States, by applying, waiting one’s turn, and working towards citizenship. We welcome new citizens.

Of course there has been much fuss about the “children in cages” at the border amid attempts to make it something the evil Donald Trump did, rather than the act of the Obama administration. Democrats do not admit wrongdoing, they just blame it on someone else. If you remember AOC went down to the southern border to check on the children in cages, and had herself photographed clutching at a chain-link fence and weeping as she stared out at an empty parking-lot. Good visuals always help.

Democrats Keep Pushing For Open Borders — Why? by The Elephant's Child

Democrats are excoriating the Republicans for being mean to the poor Mexicans, but we’ve been through that before. Now Senators Feinstein, Van Hollen, Cardin, and Kaine are urging the Senate to pass protections for “Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and “Dreamers”– the “kids” to whom Obama illegally promised amnesty, because they just wanted to go to college and were dreaming of becoming real Americans. The oldest of the “kids”— are now 39.The senators have introduced the SECURE Act (Safe Environment from Countries Under Repression and in Emergency Act) which would allow qualified TPS and DED recipients to apply for legal permanent residency.

Well, we have already learned that illegals are told how to apply for amnesty, and what to say, that will get them in. Senator Cardin (D-Md) said  The Senate must act and the president must sign into law protection for Dreamers, who mostly have known no other country but America, as well as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients, many of whom have been here for decades as violence and repression continue to rage in their home country,” Forgive me, but I doubt whether the good senator has any idea where these people come from and what the conditions are in their home countries.

We have immigration laws. You apply at a consulate or embassy, follow the rules and wait your turn. We have figured out about how many new immigrants we can handle each year, then we have all the H-1B workers needed by various industries to work for less money than the locals will, and their wives and children, and there really are people fleeing vicious treatment by their governments, so why the push for more and more immigrants? Is there some reason why we are required to just let everybody in? Other countries have immigration laws too, some far more restrictive than ours.

I welcome legal immigrants and am glad to help them get started, but I am not friendly towards open borders and illegal border crossers. Democrats like to parrot phrases like “We are a nation of immigrants” and extoll all the contributions of earlier waves of immigration. Are new immigrants likely to vote Democrat, support higher taxes and not be in favor of those old outmoded things like the Constitution and the rule of law? Why do Lefties depend so much on feeeeelings?

California Shifts Hard Left by The Elephant's Child

California is drifting farther and farther left.  Joel Kotkin is executive director of the Center for Opportunity Urbanism, and long concerned with demography. He has an interesting piece today in City Journal about a further leftward shift evidenced by California’s Democratic Party’s refusal to back Dianne Feinstein’s reelection bid, suggesting that she is the last in a line of the old Democrats.

Tech oligarchs and activist CEOs have committed themselves to extreme environmentalism, identity politics, and open-borders immigration policy. California’s bevy of clueless celebrities, now celebrated by Time as “suddenly serious” for following the identitarian party line, have also climbed aboard.  As anyone knows who has suffered through awards shows or listened to interviews with stars, the entertainment industry—much like tech—has become homogeneous in its views.

The key issues for the glitterati are not income inequality, upward mobility, or the preservation of middle-class neighborhoods but the feverish pastimes of the already rich: gender and racial issues, climate change, guns, and anything that offends the governesses and schoolmarms of intersectionality. To the ranks of these over-exposed but influential voices, you can also add California’s media and most of its intelligentsia, who seem to get their talking points from progressive sources and work assiduously to limit the influence of moderate (much less conservative) views. With Silicon Valley increasingly able to control content and ever more willing to curb debate, the policy agenda of the state’s new elite may well become reality—a nightmarish one for millions of ordinary Californians.

Then Politico Magazine did an article on “Jerry Brown, President of the Independent Republic of California.” adding the subhead “As he crusades across Europe, the governor is acting like the leader of a sovereign country—an alternative to the United States in the Trump era.”

He “stopped over at the Vatican, where a doleful group of climate scientists, politicians and public health officials had convened to discuss calamities that might befall a warming world. The prospects were so dire—floods and fires, but also forced migration famine and war—that some of the participants acknowledged difficulty staving off despair.”

“California’s doomsayer governor did not express much optimism either. Seated between an economist and an Argentine bishop at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Brown leaned into his microphone and said, ‘It is despairing. Ending the world, ending all mammalian life. This is bad stuff.’”

The leader in much of this nonsense is billionaire Tom Steyer, who is a true believer in climate catastrophe, a ferocious opponent of President Trump, striving for his impeachment, but can’t seem to fix on a reason but is apparently putting big funds behind his efforts. Keep an eye on that. He’s probably extremely incensed about Trump’s exit from the Paris Accords, which would have accomplished nothing, nothing at all. But anyone that says that is excoriated as a fascist and ‘denier’.

Terminally Annoyed by The Left. by The Elephant's Child

In the waiting room at the veterinarian today,  I was reading the new May copy of the Seattle Met magazine. Featured article concerned the tragic people who hailed from the countries affected by Trump’s travel ban, before it was halted by illegal judicial hold. (The order from the Seattle judge was clearly improper, because the president has clear authority under the Constitution to do precisely what he did.) It was, however, upheld by the 9th Circuit, which is so far left that it has become the most overruled circuit in history. Nevertheless, the magazine apparently went to print before this all became apparent, so their article was intended as a pity piece of how these people were suffering under the abusive Trump order, which only lasted for 6 months in any case.

Some abuse. Some of the seven people were students, another was unable to return home to visit because he then would not be able to get back in the U.S. There was no discussion of how long these people had been in this country, whether they were working/applying for citizenship, illegal or what. It was a sad tale of presidential abuse, and a typical leftist trick of attempting to conflate the entire immigration issue.

The Left wants open borders. They believe that immigrants will be more apt to become Democrat voters, particularly when immigration from countries like Cuba has been halted by the Obama administration. Escaping from a Communist country suggests that they might not automatically become Democrats. Obama worked hard at distributing refugees to voting districts where they might alter the future vote, or where increasing  population numbers would shift the vote.

To achieve their ends, Leftists work hard at failing to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants, ignore drug-dealing, sex-trafficking, and murderous gangs that have accompanied Obama’s lax border controls. Americans who object to illegal immigrants are supposed to be the bad people, not the illegals (“No human is illegal” say the signs). The fact that most countries have far more restrictive immigration laws than we had under the Obama administration is never mentioned. Mexico has a wall on their southern border, with guard towers, I believe. Canada’s immigration laws are more restrictive than ours. “We are a nation of immigrants” they proclaim, as if that had anything to do with anything. Apparently the United States is the only country in the world that is supposed to have completely open borders, and if you don’t believe that — you are a bad person.

This is false. We are quite entitled to admit those who are most apt to be a benefit or can contribute the most to the United States, and those who most want to become Americans. That is only basic common sense.

The Left wants cheap foreign workers to replace high cost Americans. Disney’s forcing high-tech workers to train their cheaper replacements or risk losing any severance pay was a dramatically ugly act. Wealthy Leftists desire for cheap servants isn’t very attractive either. There are real long-term concerns about Muslim immigrants who want to replace the American constitution with Sharia law—we should never admit anyone who arrives wanting to overthrow our government. You are not a bad person to expect such standards.

These are the tactics of the Left, and the reason for all the names we are called— racist, bigot, nativist, etc. etc. etc. If you do not think their way, you are a bad person. How many times lately have you hesitated in something you thought or said, because of what the Left might think of you?

But then, when we welcome the new dishes and foods immigrants bring as they open restaurants, we are accused of “cultural appropriation,”so there you go.
