A thought expressed over at Ace of Spades caught my eye yesterday, on the Forth of July.
It’s not supposed to work this way in America. A president does not gain the powers of a tyrant simply because the unelected media likes him. I don’t think anyone before Obama would have asserted that he has the right to change laws on his own whim.
The particular reference is to Obama’s decision to delay the rollout of ObamaCare until after the election. A purely political decision, but the law states when and how it is to be rolled out. Obama assumes he can just change the requirement because he wants to. The Board is just continuing to operate as if nothing happened.
Presidents have done things before that were questioned or challenged by Congress, or by the people. But the remarkable lawlessness of this administration is something quite unusual, and nobody seems to know quite what to do about it. Take them to court over each instance?
They pay no attention to the courts. The NLRB members were appointed by Obama in what he called a Congressional recess, but it did not meet the definition of a recess. A three-judge panel of the Federal Appeals Court ruled in January on very broad grounds, calling into question the constitutionality of many recess appointments. The Supreme Court has agreed to consider the case. But the thought expressed at Ace of Spades is becoming all too common.

If this is the way it works in America, what’s the point of negotiating Border Enforcement? We already know the answer to that.

American Elephants 
This is precisely the reason that, even among members of his own party, this President and his administration are being collectively ignored, by Congress, the population of the United States, and the world at large. He doesn’t feel the need to persuade, because he will simply ignore any idea that runs counter to his own. He simply cannot be trusted.
