A Query About the “Deep State.” Do These Public Servants Recognize the “Servant” Part of the Designation? by The Elephant's Child

It is becoming increasingly clear that the “Deep State” has some significant problems. Career Civil Servants seem to frequently forget the “servant” part. Kimberly Strassel of the Opinion Page in the Wall Street Journal takes it on:

The “deep state”—if we are to use the term—is better defined as consisting of career civil servants, who have growing power in the administrative state but work in the shadows. As government grows, so do the challenges of supervising a bureaucracy swelling in both size and power. Emboldened by employment rules that make it all but impossible to fire career employees, this internal civil “resistance” has proved willing to take ever more outrageous actions against the president and his policies, using the tools of both traditional and social media.

So are they a problem? Do they understand that they work for us, not for what they think would be good? Highly paid, a “swelling bureaucracy.” Interesting essay, do read the whole thing. Are they our public servants or do they have more elaborate self images?

Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Ethiopian P.M. Abiy Ahmed by The Elephant's Child

The highly acclaimed child climate leader, Greta Thunberg, 16-year-old  leader of the youth climate movement about skipping school to protest can return home to Sweden, with  the success of addressing the Congress and the United Nations. Her sponsors have suggested that she was denied the Nobel Peace Prize (which is awarded by Norwegians) because Norway is one of the world’s largest oil and gas exporters. Improbable.

The earth has been warming and cooling for millions of years. The current warming is nothing out of the ordinary. There have been far warmer years in the past and far cooler years as well. Please note the long list of climate panics in my previous post. There is no planet emergency, it’s all hype, intended as an attack on capitalism, as the Secretary of the IPCC has admitted.

The Nobel Peace Prize went to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his substantial efforts in brokering peace between his country and neighboring Eritrea. For decades Ethiopia and Eritrea were one country, Eritrea seceded in 1991. Families separated, unable to reunite, violent conflict at the borders cost more than 80,000 lives in the span of just two years. That would seem to be more of an accomplishment than getting kids to skip school to march for saving the Earth from a non-existent climate threat.

Accuracy from the Media? by The Elephant's Child

The News Media reported today that President Trump was withdrawing American Troops from Syria, and the general conversation erupted in loud angst. Trump is abandoning the Kurds in Syria, abandoning Iraq, ISIS will return etc. etc. etc. The White House reported that President Trump was moving some American troops around in Syria.  OMG, telephone calls with Turkey’s dictator Erdogan! He spoke to the dictator! Turkey will be attacking the Kurds. How can we abandon our friends the Kurds?

I don’t know about you, but I have no idea what is happening. I suspect that the News Media doesn’t either. I do not find the News Media honest, careful, or trustworthy. Whatever Trump is doing or has done is bad, must be condemned. Continual search for another “bombshell”. Straighten up!

I ran onto this list from Sharyl Atkisson, fearless reporter, an example of independent journalism. She lists 93 Media Mistakes in the Trump Era:

We the media have “fact-checked” President Trump like we have fact-checked no other human being on the planet—and he’s certainly given us plenty to write about. That’s probably why it’s so easy to find lists enumerating and examining his mistakes, missteps and “lies.”

But as self-appointed arbiters of truth, we’ve largely excused our own unprecedented string of fact-challenged reporting. The truth is, formerly well-respected, top news organizations are making repeat, unforced errors in numbers that were unheard of just a couple of years ago.
Our repeat mistakes involve declaring that Trump’s claims are “lies” when they are matters of opinion, or when the truth between conflicting sources is unknowable; taking Trump’s statements and events out of context; reporting secondhand accounts against Trump without attribution as if they’re established fact; relying on untruthful, conflicted sources; and presenting reporter opinions in news stories—without labeling them as opinions.

Here’s the list: Scroll through just a part of it to get the idea, or the whole thing if you are patient. Gives you a good idea of just why the President refers to “Fake News”.

93 Notable Mistakes and Missteps in Major Media Reporting on Donald Trump

Uncommon Knowledge, with Author and Columnist Douglas Murray by The Elephant's Child

In this issue of Uncommon Knowledge from the Hoover Institute, Peter Robinson is joined by British author and columnist Douglas Murray to discuss “The Death of Europe.” Important and chilling. You can just shove stuff to the side and avoid taking it on for so long, but at some point you have to take a hard look at what is, and decide what, if anything, you are willing to do or even can do about it. Do watch the whole thing, it is important.

What We’ve Been Reading Today by The Elephant's Child

From PJ Media: “The Impeachment of Donald Trump Never Stopped,” by Roger L. Simon. Starring, of course, the slimy Adam Schiff. The Russia probe: easily one of the most despicable and seditious attempts to unseat a duly elected President of the United States. The attempt to impeach Donald Trump began on or not long after June 16, 2015, the day Donald Trump announced his candidacy. The first president to be impeached before he was elected.

From American Greatness: “The Madness of Progressive Projection” by Victor Davis Hanson. The only Trump “crime” was in his winning an election he was not supposed to win. So after the election, prior illegal acts were redefined as legal, and legal ones as illegal. Strangest of all..were the blaring headlines that President Trump had dared to talk with the Australian Prime Minister — in 2016and referenced the role of foreign governments and in particular Australia in U.S. electoral politics.

From Powerline: “Why Schiff?” FOX News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo is the best of the Sunday Morning gabfests. Yesterday her guests included Rep. John Ratcliffe, a member of the House Intelligence Committee. The Intelligence Committee is where the truth-challenged Chairman Adam Schiff is orchestrating the impeachment action. the Intelligence Committee should not be where the action is and what we have here is failure to communicate. The two are related. RealClearPolitics has posted video along with a transcript here.
Add, from Front Page Mag: “Schiff’s Deep State Collusion” Rep. Schiff is the California Democrat, now the laughably unqualified chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, a Trump-hater who spent the last three years smearing anyone who doubts the existence of his Trump-Russia electoral collusion conspiracy theory as traitors and agents of the Russian government while apparently leaking secret details of congressional investigations to his friends at CNN and elsewhere in the media at every opportunity.

From National Review: What the Next Democratic President has in Store for Us, With or without
Congress. This is fairly terrifying. It appears that Democrats want to roll back ever deregulatory action of President Trump (you know, the ones that have set the economy humming, almost eliminated unemployment, and improved the lives of every American). the liberal American Prospect rolled out a series of articles proposing a meaty “Day One Agenda” for the next Democrat in charge of the White House. This president could roll back Trump’s deregulatory efforts, bring backed stalled Obama initiatives, and launch government giveaways and major assaults on business, all without the legislative branch’s help.

From Front Page Mag:Warren’s Anti-Capitalist Message” Elizabeth Warren continues to rise in the Democrat presidential primary polls. Bernie is fading away when his age came under attention with a heart attack. The American people are not enthusiastic about public officials enriching their children by using their influence with foreign nations to get them big jobs for which they are totally unqualified. Elizabeth Warren claims to be a capitalist, but has no clue what the word means. Her understanding of basic economics is limited to the Rich are Bad People and we should take their money away.

What We Have Been Reading Today by The Elephant's Child

Here’s What We’ve Been Reading Today:

From William Voegeli, at Law & Liberty: “Do Americans Want to Be Involved in Local Governance?” He analyzes the choices offered to him on the most recent ballot, and the problems involved in keeping up and keeping well informed.

From The Babylon Bee, the satirical website that mostly makes more sense than the real world. “All Democrats Drop Out of Presidential Race Since The World is Ending from Climate Change and There’s No Point

From Breitbart : Watch Live–One Year Later; Leftists March on Scotus to Impeach Kavanaugh It’s quite clear, they never thought he was guilty of abusing women, Since he is a Conservative, they feared he might vote against their abortion rights, and thought impeaching him the only way to get him out of there.

Also from Breitbart, “While Democrats Pursue Impeachment, President Trump Builds Impressive Record of Accomplishments.”

From American Thinker, Nancy in the swamp of despond.”

From the New York Post: “Sorry, Dems: It’s OK to ask for foreign help in a criminal justice investigations

Avoiding Their Responsibility In Favor of “Click Bait” by The Elephant's Child

The American press is so focused on what we are calling “click bait” or celebrity that they do not notice commentary from scholars or scientists or experts in one field or another, in favor of reporting what some has-been from Hollywood has to say, that it is a big choice in reporting. A recognizable name is favored over important ideas every time. Robert DeNiro is famous for something other than his usually foul mouth, but I cannot remember what, nor dredge up any reason why anything he has to say would be of interest.

This kind of emphasis is why President Trump refers to the “fake media” as well as why the media is so offended at his categorization. This is why we have to listen to the inane comments from AOC, but have to search out commentary from highly regarded climate scientists. I don’t care what anyone from Hollywood has to say about anything at all. I’ve pretty much given up any interest in movies because of their dumb politics. If I am in need of pure entertainment, I’ll look for old movies or movies from Britain. I have seen some notice that movie attendance is way off. They have only themselves to blame. I don’t post my opinions so much to complain, but for others who think the same way, to know that they are not alone.
